Is anyone on bioidentical hormone replacement therapy? Has it tightened your skin/jowls, etc in a noticable way? Got rid of any lines or wrinkles?

Do you ladies think a hormone imbalance causes premature aging?

Did you experience sudden lines, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity when you began perimenopause?

Thanks in advance for your replies!! This site is amazing.

Hi "I" - Welcome! That's quite a name you've chosen and it speaks volumes. I have been on BIH's for about 6 years. I was so spaced out before I started, I could hardly follow a thought through from start to finish. I was soooo internally disorganized. It was like being in hell...doing crazy things like trying to put a mayonaise jar in the washing machine. Rolling Eyes I also hot flashed and tossed and turned all night. So the BIH's changed my life. I could think straight again, still occasionally hot flashed but sleeping returned to almost normal. They have been a life saver for me. What I can't speak to though, is that they changed my skin. I don't know how they have impacted it because I do so many things to maintain my skin, its hard to determine what my "good" skin is attributable to...but I suspect most of it is the Tazorac (retin A) I've used for years. The BIH's WILL help you sleep though...and that alone should help your skin. Good luck and stay with us...you will learn so much!

Hormones affect your skin if you have an imbalance, i.e. too much testosterone makes your skin oily, acne prone, facial hair. You need to have blood tests to see if you need hormones and if so, which ones. Stay away from synthetics.

So I wasn't the only one doing these weird things, huh? I also couldn't remember anything, especially names, for more than a second or two. I seriously thought I was losing my mind. Throw total emotionality (is that a word?) into the mix... Hot flashes, lack of sleep, memory loss PLUS crying jags followed by mini-rages (lots more crying though). I was hell to be around. I feel like BIH saved my sanity as well as my life.

As for my skin, I did notice that my naso-labial lines, which were just starting, got less pronounced. My skin is very sensitive to hormones, so I went through some periods where my skin was not having a good time while we tweaked the hormones. It was weird though - my face wasn't affected as badly (although I did & do get some nice cysts on my jaw & chin). I was mainly breaking out across my upper back, and my scalp, particularly by the nape of my neck, where I've never broken out before in my life. Now that we've got the hormones just about right, that has all abated. And I would do it all over again in a heartbeat to have my mind & sleep back.

BTW - my melasma seems to have gotten a bit better since being on the hormones, but I don't know if I can attribute it to them.

Although I went on HRT for hot flashes & insomnia I think it does help somewhat with elasticity. It seems to plump up your skin more & keeps you younger looking. Not a great deal in firming though.

mountaingirl- I had to laugh at your story cause it's so true! Laughing

If I had any of those symptoms and certainly what Mountaingirl went through I'd jump on BIH therapy.

Boy - reading all this makes me really nervous. I haven't experienced meno yet (still get my monthly), but if I get any of your symptoms fellow EDSers - uhoh! Anxious

That's how I feel too Foxe. At least we have our EDSers to give us pointers and direction when and if we need it.

It sounds like the OP is referring to the results one gets from Human Growth Hormones (HGH) and not necessarily HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy).

Yes, totally. I am having a bad perimeno skin day from being off hormones the last few months. Had to have an ID photo done today, really scary. Shock

I've used mostly the birth control pill to keep things in order but want to switch to bioidentical estrogen soon. I don't think my skin care has as much effect without hormones!!
