I'm getting ready to order some LAA, and I want to know how many teaspoons of the powder (or crystals, whatever) one ounce will yield. Since I'm trying to convert a dry measure, none of the converters online will give me an answer, since it depends upon the density of the powder...they all say "six teaspoons = 1 oz". That's the correct conversion of liquid volume, not dry powder weight. I want to get enough to possibly make a serum for body use as well as face use, but I don't want to go over budget. Can someone who makes Vit C serum regularly help me out? |

Well that's pretty much as close as it will come out as far as I can find! I have 2 iPhone apps that do conversions and they both give 6tsp. Per oz. The only other way is to use a scale and figure dry measure that way, maybe someone has access to one?

I should add those are US teaspoons as apparently UK measure differently! Sorry if this just adds to the confusion!

I hoped that someone who buys the stuff and makes serum can tell me how many batches they can make with one oz. The 6 tsp = 1 oz is assuming a level liquid teaspoon and one liquid oz...not dry weight. There is no conversion for that because it depends upon the density of the dry ingredient being measured. |

Also, I forgot to say thank you, DM. ...I meant to. I suppose I could measure out an oz of flour and see how many tsps I can get from that. And flour is about the most dense powder I can think of, so I can assume that I'll get at least that many tsps from an oz of LAA, if not more. |

I understand and as both are used for both liquid and dry measurements there is no way a conversion will be exact on the dry ingredients as you said the density is a factor! For any DIY recipe it is assumed (at least to my mind) that you are using a level tsp. or Tbs. depending on the recipe. Unfortunately conversion by weight instead of volume doesn't include tsp.'s! I think your idea of measuring out a similar dry ingredient sounds like a plan! Sorry I can't help more!

Maybe this will give you some idea:
Flour, whole wheat 2.5 grams/Tsp
Gelatine, unflavored 4.7 grams/Tsp
Sugar, brown 4.6 grams/Tsp
Sugar, granulated 4.2 grams/Tsp
Sugar, powdered(unsifted) 2.5 grams/Tsp
Salt, Table 6.1 grams/Tsp
1 dry ounce = 28.35 grams |
