I have been on antibiotics for the past 8 months, and my skin looks horrible. I am suffering from embedded pimples, large poors, thin skin, broken capillaries, and sagging skin.

I read lots in the dermarolling messages, but couldn't really find what I was searching for.

Please tell me if I am on the right track here. I am thinking of using a 1.5mm dermaroller once a month to help with sagging. Can I use a shorter dermaroller daily or weekly to help with pimples, broken capillaries, etc?

What products do I need to use afterwards? I am mixed up about what type of Vit C & whether to use Retin A or not afterwards.

Thank you so much for helping me.

Sounds like your acne is cystic?
I would not use a dermaroller on active acne.

Hi Jen46,

GirlieGirl is correct, and you don't want to use the dermaroller on active acne. Dermarollers don't help with pimples, but the longer size dermarollers do help with acne scars. I think that it may be able to help with minor sagging, but I'm not sure to what degree. It is good in general to increase collagen, decrease wrinkles, etc. Some people have definitely seen a difference, and I think it's something worth trying, so long as your acne isn't active at the moment. I have very thin skin, too. Some of the women here are using a drybrushing technique (just use an clarisonic replacement brush without the main unit) to help stimulate and thicken the skin. I just started that a month ago, so I'll let you know if it works. If you do choose to use the dermaroller, you should use Vitamin C int he morning, and Retin A at night. Wait a few days after you roll, as these should not be used on open wounds. Don't use any anti-inflammatory medication or oils for a week. HTH. Good luck:)

wow jen, what an ordeal...are you still on anti-biotics?

imo it would be good to heal your skin issues more before dermarolling..not just pimples but all the issues you spoke of (something i know i could never do..so maybe i'm not the right person to ask..but it just makes sense to me)

do you take probiotics?

seems some strengthening of your internal system from so much of having to handle the long period of anti-biotic use would be very beneficial (imo our external skin condition reflects the condotion our internal organ/systems).

perhaps take a look at the green smoothie thread on this forum...perhaps some form of facial acupressure or massage, also very light dry brushing of your face (starting very very gradually)... there's a thread on that too...ther's lots more you can do...i'll let other's chime in... then when you're skin is healthier, perhaps then look toward dermarolling

I would suggest starting on Retin A (weakest strength)taking it slowly & gradually working up to nightly. Also a vit.C serum & a barrier repair cream. I agree about not using a dermaroller yet.

what i was trying to say is that i would never do dermarolling..just won't work for my skin..so i may not be the right person to answer this question...but it hurts my skin, empathically, just to think about you putting all those holes in your face when it's so fragile right now.

there is also something called a jade roller..it's an Asian tool for rejuvenation..a small smooth roller made of jade (i've heard that traditionally in china jade was considered, as a gemstone, to be akin to the energy of our own skin..almost like an extension of it)..one justs rolls the implement on the skin to strengthen the tissues gently.

naturally, none of these techniques would be done over open pimples.

hi jen -

i strongly recommend looking into the Oil Cleansing Method thread, OCM has helped clear up my breakouts and many people w/ acne use it with successful results. I know those of us that break out fear putting oils on our face, but this really seems to work...

i agree w/ the rest - you only want to dermaroll on clear healthy skin

good luck

jen, Two barrier repair creams that I have used and can recommend are:
-Nia 24 Skin Strenghtening Complex &
-Leaf & Rusher Tx Night Formula

Osmotics also have a couple of barrier repair creams you can check out. HTH

Will dermarolling help poikiladerma? What size dermaroller should I use on my neck for this?

Also, what size dermaroller for the backs of hands?

Thank you!

Cerave, a less expensive option, helps repair the skin barrier. I like it very much.

I'm hearing all kinds of good reports about Cerave. Must give it a try.
