| I have been reading many of your posts concerning which skin care lines to use. For many, many years I have been using either Dr. H, Astara or Jurlique, but recently I became interested in Ole Henriksen. I thought I would do a bit of research on skin care lines and came upon this website when I searched "skin deep". It was quite a shock to me that the Henriksen line is "purer" than Dr. H. The site is a non-profit research site so they have no agenda as to product preference. You may want to check it out for possible allergy ingredients, etc. in the products that you are considering or currently using. It is a real eye opener. |

The web site skin deep has come up before.
Although they may have some decent info, I consider them an alarmist site. I would definitely research on your own before making decisions based on what you read there. |

| I'd take Skin Deep with a grain of salt. They basically "flag" ingredients they think may be harmful, which may be backed up by varying degrees of scientific evidence. |

I agree with you. I think ingredients are not everything. |

I agree you need to research several sources but ingredients that you use are crucial as they are what makes products work or not. They need to be in correct concentration and formulated with others that work synergisticly.

I personally highly appreciate the Cosmetics Database website. I've found it invaluable on several occasions, especially when I research products to use on my little one.
I don't live or die by it, but I'm incredibly grateful for what they do -- its information I'm not sure I'd be privy to otherwise. I really like to be able to research things and then make my own decision, and their site is a piece of the puzzle for me.
As long as you keep in mind that there are other factors requiring consideration and keep balance in your perspective, its a great tool.
Another thing you may want to check out are the EU standards, they are much more stringent then the USA on what chemicals they allow/ban in products. You'd be surprised (sickened?) how many ingredients in our products were banned in the EU (and other countries) long ago. |
