| It's that time of year again to file your income taxes. I've always gone to H&R block to file my income taxes because it's so easy, but I know they are a rip off. This year I want to file my BC income taxes myself so I don't have to pay H&R block to do it since my income taxes are so straight forward. I know this might sound like a dumb question, but how would I go about doing my own income taxes for free? |

My kids (simple taxes) have used the online free TurboTax version with good results for about 4-5 years now.

Hi Dark Moon,
I also recommend turbo tax.
I went to HR Block this year to do my taxes and walked out when they tried to charge me $350... because my return was "complicated". It only took the woman 20 minutes to do state and federal... and I had to point out her errors many times. The people there are no experts.
Sorry for the rant...

I've used http://www.taxact.com for YEARS now.
They aren't totally free. I cost my a total of $18 to file state and Fed.
The AWESOME part, is they retain your info so when you file next year, it pulls everything in.
When you have a straightforward tax situation, you can be done in a half hour... file electronically, and if you get a refund, have your $$ direct deposited in a few days.
You can also go to http://www.irs.gov and get a list of all the online sites that are approved. They will tell you which ones are free and such.
