I used to have more hollowness under my right eye, and the tear trough was more pronounced on my right eye as a result. But now I noticed that my right eye's undereye is getting fuller, and when I smile, it has a youthful appearance again. My left eye is now the one that looks more hollow. But the tear trough on the left is still ok.

I did gain a little bit of weight. I'm now 110 lbs. Sad I'm still trying to lose at least 5 lbs. I exercise a lot, but then I tend to eat a lot, too.

Do you think the undereye hollowness on the right side got filled out just from the weight gain? I use Retin A 0.025% cream alternating with the homemade cream that has turmeric in it every night. I don't know if either contributes to the reduction of hollowness. I do apply the cream right up to the area that was hollow.

Could be the weight gain. Retin A can thicken the skin alright, but will not increase fat under the eyes.

Some docs are now saying that fat under the eyes actually expands with age....they used to think it just became herniated due to weakening of the eyelid structure. Obviously more fat can create bags, but it does help prop up the eye area and stops the lower lids from sagging.

I heard fat cells can grow bigger but you don't get more fat cells as you pass a certain age (like 20?). So that would make sense if you have fat cells under the eyes, and they get fatter and causing the dreaded bags. I think plastic surgery can remove the fat from under your eyes, but you then risk getting sagging eyelid skin. If they remove your eyelid skin too much to compensate for that, then you might get eyelids that hang too low and don't close properly. I don't remember what the term is called when that happens but it happens with lower lids usually. The eyes are so delicate!

I actually had my eyebags removed when aged 22. They started getting bigger at 18 and made me look very tired. Initially it looked better, but now 6 years later my undereye area is looking a bit too hollow and would actually like some fat put back in lol.

Believe the term when the eyelid's pulled down is 'ectropion'.
