I have read a bit about this. Wondering if any experienced Rosaceans can offer insight.
I am currently dealing with a mild to moderate case of Rosacea brought on by stress + cold weather, going on 4 months now for this flare. Just diagnosed, but I've been dealing with redness, flushing, & hypersensitive, reactive, 'difficult' skin off & on for about 3 years. My P&P's are mainly 'rough' appearing skin all over the cheeks, only a few pustules (ick, what a horrid word) here & there (not dramatic). When not flared up, my skin was smooth-textured, fair, small-pored, dry. Currently, red, rough (lots of small paps), splotchy, flushed, uber-uber-dry.
I was only diagnosed a few days ago, but 4 days of MetroGel have shown improvement in my overall inflammation & redness, and I'm seeing small improvement in my overall skin tone. This gives me hope!
In what I've read, Retin-A at .025% sped up the clearing of P&P's, if applied carefully & diligently. P&P's that theoretically would have taken months to clear completely via Metro alone cleared in a matter of weeks instead.
I don't tolerate .05 Retin-A well, but in the past I was okay with .025% cream & have a brand new tube in my hot little hands. Has anyone here had experience using both Metro & Retin-A to gently improve the overall tone & texture of their Rosacea skin?
Thanks! |

I use Fiancea topically, which really helps and take Oracea orally and daily for my rosacea. I cannot tolerate Retin-A at all. My derms have had me try it numerous times for years and it makes my rosacea flare and my skin freak. We never get passed that stage and then my skin is a complete mess to start over.
I also like IS Clinical Proheal Serum, an ice serum for rosacea prone skin. |

Thanks for the reply. I wonder if it's a case where those who can tolerate Metro are maybe in a better position to tolerate Retin-A? I have been okay with .025% in the recent past, but I've never been able to tolerate .05%.
I don't tolerate systemic meds (esp. antibiotics) well. Topicals give me pretty quick response (for good or for ill) so I guess I'm lucky that way. Metro's working beautifully for me.
I'm glad you found treatments that helped you, though!
So far, at the three boards I've posted this question, no one with Rosacea has been able to tolerate tretinoin or offer a similar experience. I will probably have to be my own guinea pig. LOL |
