Hi
I know most people are already taking supplements for skin. But Im wondering what about herbs? Im not sure what herbs to take? I know chia seeds and rosehips are recommended. Anything else? |

Maybe evening primrose, but it has some side effects which have been discussed in this forum. |

true herbs for the skin would include burdock root which is a blood purifier for clearer skin and Horsetail which is a source of silica and calcium that supports the connective structure of the skin. |

I think re herbs it depends on your goals and body. Almost any herb has effects of sorts, but whether you want clear skin, purified blood, soothing or comforting actions will narrow it down a little. |

Spirulina is fab. I mix with chlorella everyday -

I learned a lot on this site, from Jasminerosey and then more in other research. I'm hooked. |

I took Spirulina one time and it made me as sick as a dog - and I broke out in spots and cramps all over. Never again!!!! |

Ginko is excellent for improving circulation and Chaparall is a really strong anti-oxidant. Rose and Lavender are really great when used on older skin - lavender is an adaptogen and manages to help skin move back to its healthiest state. It can kill bacteria, helps the skin retain moisture and can remove excess oil, all at the same time. While you can take lavender internally, both Rose and Lavender are best used externally. Rose hips are high in vitamin C and potassium, and Butcher Broom is said to help strengthen capillaries, making them less prone to breakage. That helps bring the blood to the skin, which helps keep it young looking, as well as helps reduce dark circles under the eyes. |

Faeriedust:
What are you hoping the supplements will help?
Do you ever read makeupalley? Some members there have had success with various supplements. |

My skin type:
acne prone, sensitive and will be 49
Years ago (5+)I had cystic acne along the jaw line. I did some reading and it was suggested that milk thistle can help balance hormones (jawline breakouts)
I did try the milk thistle and I did see results after 5 weeks. I was getting one or two huuuuge ones monthly and it stopped after a few weeks.
Zinc is suppose to help. I did not notice results. (Be sure to balance with copper supplements.)
I also tried evening primrose. I do take Omegas 3/flax. This was suggested by my eye doctor for dry eyes. It does help. I have not noticed a change in skin. |

It has been posted on the skin care board from Makeupalley about spearmint tea.
It seems to help balance hormones for some. This is tea from the grocery store such as Sleepytime, Mint Medley from Bigelow, etc. It has also been reported that some women who are headache prone can develope headaches. (That was my experience.)

I am willing to try OTC herbal supplements and vitamins (and tea. I love tea!)
The only thing that helped me was milk thistle. I think I am exception to MT. Post above |

I am not sure if you have heard of goldenseal - it is used for all sorts of things but especially skin problems. I can not say how well it works because I have never taken it, but just came across it in my herbal "bible" and thought I would mention it. |
