My friend went to dermatologist office and he prescribed her Premarin (vaginal cream) to put under the eyes.
Anyone use that? I am tempted...

Hi, there are other topical rx estrogen creams available besides Premarin. Estrace contains estradiol 0.01%. which is the same formulation that was used in this study-

(from http://www.smartskincare.com/treatments/topical/estrog.html)

While going on estrogen replacement is a complex decision requiring the analysis of one's medical history, women after menopause can get the skin benefits of estrogen with topical preparations. Dr. Schmidt and colleagues, from the University of Vienna Medical School, Austria, studied the effects of topical estrogen treatment with 0.01% estradiol or 0.3% estriol in 59 postmenopausal women. After 6 month of treatment, a marked improvement in skin elasticity and firmness was noted; wrinkle depth and pore size decreased by over sixty percent in both estradiol and estriol groups. Skin moisture and collagen synthesis increased significantly.

Premarin is made from pregnant horses urine-
I copied a bit of info from the website below-

http://www.equineadvocates.org/issues/premarin/premarin.html

Life for PMU mares is brutal. An estimated one-fourth are replaced each year, although the typical lifespan of the draft breeds used on most of the PMU factory farms in Canada is twenty years or more. The mares are repeatedly impregnated, and for six months of each 11-month pregnancy most are confined in stalls that prohibit turning around, grooming themselves and comfortably lying down. Their water intake is often regulated to produce maximum estrogen-rich urine. The mares are continually attached to plumbing which is designed to fit over their urethras. It is held in place with movement-restricting body straps. When mares can no longer adequately "produce," most are sold for slaughter. Most of their surviving foals are either pulled and raised as "Pee Line" replacements or sold at auction for slaughter.

PLEASE use something other than premarin. It's really not right that we should benefit from animals suffering like this.

I think a lot of women must just not know about how it's actually made. Estrace also comes in a gel formulation which is helpful if you tend to get milia with creams.

I agree, many are just unaware! It's such a travesty what is done to animals it actually turns my stomach!

Believe me, you don't want to mess up with these kind of hormones without a doctor's supervision and most doctors won't recommend Premarin or generic formulas for the face.

I used it for a month and a half on my face and had hot flushes that did not have before, plus ended up with hyper-pigmentation which I am now trying to get rid of badly; mind you, I did not applied it every day but every other day or 3 times x week and even then I had all these problems.

I think you're right... I had no idea the process to get horse pee... which grossed me out anyway... but that is horrible. To cage an animal like that is cruel... to do so while pregnant... OMG! Thanks for this info...

The fact that Premarin exists for the vanity of women really makes me cry. I want it outlawed! Those poor horses.

Well, I think it's mostly prescribed as a vaginal cream for women that have dryness problems with menopause. My grandmother was given a prescription years ago. When I saw it in her bathroom I was the one who had to tell her about it. Her Dr. never mentioned anything. There are alternative prescription forms of estrogen. There's no reason why it has to be made this way.
