I got the DDF Moisturizer with SPF 30 from EDS, and really like the texture, not leaving white cast and all that. But last week, I went on my lunch time walk for an hour. I did not reapply the SS but wore a hat, no sunglasses (forgot in the car). Not thinking much and trying to stay in the shades most of the way (75% of the way). That evening I noticed reddening color around my eyes and cheeckbones.
Was it because I did not reapply the SS or because the SS is not effective?
I usually apply it once in the morning. It's a big jar and I don't want to carry it in my purse. Before my lunch time walk though, I would paste on some foundation with SPF in it to further protect my skin. Just didn't do it that day. I thought the DDF SS was good enough protection since I would wear a hat and stay mostly in the shades. I also walked with my face down, not looking up to face the sun. |

Not sure if this is the same DDF product that you have:
Moisturizing Photo-Age Protection SPF 30 by DDF
Active Ingredients: Octinoxate 7.5%, Octisalate 5%, Octocrylene 6%, Titanium Dioxide 3%
By the looks of this DDF SS, it is mostly chemical in nature (only 3% of a physical SS ingredient)
Chemical SS need to be reapplied regularly as they breakdown with exposure to the sun.
Reapply more often and see if that helps. At least every 2 hrs and after swimming and sweating.
Or, get a physical SS. They work differently and might provide better protection for you. For my face, I prefer a physical SS in the form of a mineral makeup (MMU), that way I have makeup and a physical SS at the same time. I used this last summer and my face did not tan at all. |

I agree foxe, I have string sun here in southern Florida all year long and find I do best with a physical sunscreen and MMU to keep protected, and I avoid the sun as much as possible! |

In your last paragraph you mentioned "I would paste on some foundation with SPF....." Most liquid foundations just don't have enough SS protection. You REALLY have to put a thick layer on for any protection.
Also did you apply the proper amount of sunscreen? Some people apply a little dab for the whole face and the protection is just not the same when you under apply.
I do like MMU and some MMU companies offer finishing powders with mostly sunscreen filters. I have one from Silk Naturals that is mostly zinc oxide (samples are available).
Colour science is another one and available from EDS. |

Next time you should reapply it and try the same way. It's a good experiment. |

I agree with Autumn1995, you may need to put a thick layer. I use SPF30 PA+++ sun screen and never reapply it , it works well in south Texas string sun. |
