This is my first post here after lurking for a long time.
I've went overboard on facial products and took three steps back and it seemed to be paying off. But, I have had an ongoing issue with exfoliation products not working on my face. The only way I have ever been able to exfoliate my face was to just use my hands and massage the dead skin off.
Well, there was an area I was rubbing today, and I didn't even think i was being rough- I thought i was doing it as I normally would, but on my cheek I rubbed off skin the size of a dime!
I am sick to my stomach and paniced. Has this ever happened to anyone? The only thing I can think of is I put pressure on the area for too long while I was rubbing above it. I need to stress that this is the way I have exfoliated my skin for two years since going on retin-a.
But, I started dry brushing last week, and this seemed to disagree with my glycolic peel, and it was from the peel that I had felt my skin needed to heal.
Anyway, someone please reassure me that this will heel. Tell me how long to lay off my face. I can have "tourettes" about stuff like this and become very obsessive. I need firm advice and also reassurance that my face will be OK. I am right now only putting Emu oil on as thats all I have thats gentle.
Help! |

You should never help the skin peel after having a peel. Its best to let it heal on its own otherwise you risk scarring.
But dont worry, put some polysporin on it and a bandaid if you can and leave it alone. It should heal nicely. |

What happened was that the week before I dry brushed and used glycolic acid that day. I didn't even consider that it was not a good combo. I had three very good glycolic treatments, and so wasn't even worried about the fourth one. It stung more, and I should have rinsed it off, but in my head I was thinking I just forgot how much it stung.
So *that* made my face bumpy in two places. But four days later my skin looked better so I used retina again. which I have used for sometime. It was night two of the retina that I had some sloughing the next morning and went to use my hands to massage the areas, and then made the raw spot. Today. I put emu oil on it and zinc oxide and it is calmed down in color and is only light pink now. Duh on me for overwhelming my skin...
What do you suggest I exfoliate with post retin-a? What do others use? |

Maybe the retin-a thinned the skin too much then, combined with the glycolic/exfoliation, it was too much for your skin.
Vitamin E would probably help it heal too. |

agreed. I would put a nice healing oil and certainly do not touch or aggrevate your face for a few weeks. |
