Hi, I always looked younger than my age and never really worried about my skin...until about 33...then I went through a period of about 18 months where I was really drinking, which I've since stopped. Unfortunately I really aged a lot in that time. Maybe I just "look my age" now but as someone who's always looked young and never spent time in the sun, I'd like to look...well...younger and fresher. I'm thinking about either Microdermabrasion, Retin-A, or Obaji. Before seeing a PS or dermatologist would anyone here have any suggestions? Thanks! |

I think that your best bet is to see a dermatologist. They can get you on the right track to help get your skin get back to normal.
Let us know what they suggest you do.
Good luck. |

Glad to hear you have stopped drinking. I can't figure out from your post how old you are now??? Tell us a little more about your skin type and problems areas. Until then, try to be good to yourself: eat healthy, get exercise, and drink lots of water to hydrate your skin. What are you using now for a skin care routine? |

Thanks, I'm 35. I don't have any particular problem areas, it's just that I've always had such great smooth "young" skin but now I look a lot older after only a couple of years. I've known a great PS for years and was all set to go to him for Microdermabrasion or whatever he recommended...but then I read about Obagi. So many people are raving about it. I phoned his office but the only skincare line he has is Physicians Choice. So I either have to just stay with him, and forget about Obagi or try and find someone new who does do Obagi. Either way, I kind of half to make up my mind before choosing a doctor. |

Firstly welcome and congratulations on kicking the booze That's a hard thing to do!
If you have only been on the wagon for 6 months or so, I think it is unrealistic to expect your skin (or your liver etc) to recover from nearly 2 years of alcohol abuse. If your skin was as good as you say, then in a year or so it will have improved no end. Detoxing the skin can take time, but it's natural healing will happen. If you want to improve the apperance with microD and peels, then that is fine. Is there any reason they can't be used in conjunction? Say a few months apart? Also what is a PS?

I went to a local PS (Plastic Surgeon) last night. No fee for consultation and her Obagi prices were pretty cheap. I'll try this for a few months and see how well I respond. I never had any sort of smile or expression lines before, but now every time I smile or squint they really appear. I'm not expecting Obagi to help with this, but later on I might try Botox, or one of the argireline products. |
