Hi guys
I am planning on doing a TCA peel (my first) in a few weeks and I wanted to get some advice about preparing my skin beforehand. As I sit writing this my skin has reached the peeling stage of a 18% salicylic acid peel which I did get a pretty good frost from and I'm peeling well (much better than glycolic which I worked my way up from 30% to 60% and never peeled once!). My main problems are some red acne scars (they are fairly recent), some pitted acne scars and enlarged pores. Some of these skin problems are pretty bad so I want a deeper more effective peel.

Through the research I have done regarding the tca it seems preping the skin is essential but I cant get my hands on Retin A (I'm in the UK and I dont even know if you can get it from the doctors here??) but I read using a hydroxy cream is pretty good for about two weeks pre peel? I have bought the Skin Doctors Gamma Hydroxy resurfacing cream (it hasnt arrived yet though) - anyone had any experience with this stuff? or with prepping the skin for TCA without Retin A? Question

The "prepping" will depend on how superficial or deep your peel will be.

It seems you're doing superficial level peels which don't need that much preparation but also won't really do much for scarring.

If you do a medium depth peel then for sure you should prep your skin with retin-A and a bleaching agent for 6 weeks before the procedure.

Retin-A and AHAs prepare the skin differently and one is not a substitute for the other. AHA will exfoliate the skin and make it more ven and by doing so will makes product penetration more even. Retin-A will also help with even product penetration but will also enhance collage production and reduce the incidence of post-peel hyperpigmentation.

I agree with Josse, but I think any TCA peel should be prepped for with Retin A, hydroquinone, and AHA for 6 weeks. In my opinion, the most important 1 of the 3 is the Retin A for prepping.

Can you order from one of the online pharmacies, like medsmex, etc. I can't remember the names of some of them, but if you do a board search I know there are more than that.

Retino-A is the same thing as Retin-A/tretinoin. The shipping cost is VERY high, $25 to the US and the tubes of tretinoin are very cheap ($3-$5), so you might as well get both the .025% and the 0.05%. While you are at it, get some generic Latisse to maximize your order.

Bump Smile

If you start hydroquinone before the peel, when do you stop using it? After the peel?, the day before? Or never stop? Thanks Smile

Why not telephone the supplier of product used and ask them. MUAC could probably answer questions.

I never did any kind of prepping when I did my TCA peels - maybe I should have. They worked, though. Although they may have worked better if I had used Retinol for a few weeks beforehand.

If anyone get their calls answered during MUAC's business hours, 9:30am til 4:00pm EST please post on this thread. I would love to know. Same if anyone successfully used their online support. I have no success after many attempts, thank you.
