I just did a 20% TCA peel this past Saturday. I've done the glycolic and lactic peels previously and have been using Retin A every night.
I was terrified to do the TCA, it probably sat in the fridge for months till I got enough courage to do it. I must say it was scary. I never felt something burn so bad. It felt like someone had an iron on my face on high. I made it to 3 minutes and had to put on the baking soda and rinse it off. Sunday night I did spot treat some areas that did not redden. This turned out to be a little better.
My 3rd day into the peel, some skin has started to come off, I've kept anti-biotic cream on and some times I layered it with emu oil or vitamin e oil. All is well, except for how tight the skin feels. It's really hard opening your mouth to eat.
I guess my fear of TCA's has somewhat subsided, but I don't think I will ever go any higher in percentage. My question is this, how often can you do a 20% tca? I don't know if I would ever be able to leave it on for the full 5 minutes and then put a 2nd layer on. Or do you build up a resistance to them the more you use them? |

I am gearing up to do a Platinum Skin Care 20% TCA peel in a few weeks. From the instructions I have, it says that for a 1 layer 20% TCA peel you can repeat that in 3-5 weeks. I would tend to go with the longer time in between, but that is just me. Good luck with your peel! |

I cannot tolerate the pain! I tried to do it once with no emla and it was horrrrrrrible.
I would also be more inclined to go with the longer time in between, esp. since I do tend to get PIH and broken caps if I stress my skin tooo much
I would also recommend aquaphor or vaseline or just the regular neosporing to keep the skin moisturized.
Also for people that have cold sores... I would definitely take Valtrex before and after the peel. |

Can anyone answer this for me. Which do you get better results from, a tca, glycolic or lactic peel?
I'm not sure if I want to do a tca ever again. I thought I had a high tolerance for pain but I could not leave that on for 3 to 5 minutes. I don't even think I made it to 3 min.
Do you get better results the more you do? I'm trying to smooth out some fine lines and firm the skin a little. There is a line above my upper lip that refuses to budge no matter what I do. Maybe I could just spot treat that one line every so often.
Any suggestions anyone? |
