The thing I still wonder is does it still have a positive effect that's not visible for those 40% or does it just not do a thing? I know for me it had an initial effect of evening my skin tone and giving a "glow", the glow continues as I use it but I haven't gotten any more lightening of pigmentation as I have continued with it and I have used C for years? |
I´ve got the same doubt. I´m happy with the results now but who knows what actually does in the long term? Am I one of the 40%? Well, aparently the three things that work better are retin-a, vitamin C and niacin. So I guess I´ll have to use the other two, just as a a precaution :)lol |

Yes, definitely Vitamin C serum is one of a kind, if the products suits your skin type then its gonna be the best of all the skin care products available. It has the tendency to perform multiple tasks for the health of the skin and can make the skin look glowing and elegant |

I use Vit C, and particularly love the Environ Vit C serum, well its more of a gel cream, but it always makes my skin look great after usage. My derm told me one that that if I was in the sun to apply Vit C immediately afterwards. It helps to minimise any free radical damage from sun exposure. |

I have been using C (Cellular Skin Rx)for over a decade now and I can definitely see a difference if I run out and go a bit without using it. My skin definitely gets the "glow" everyone talks about.
I used to use Retin-A quite a bit but backed way off when I read it thinned the skin a bit. Instead I have gone to regular use of niacinamide product (Cellular Skin Rx again)that combined with my C has improved my skin even more. I don't miss the Retin-A at all and feel my skin looks thicker, healthier now. |

This thread is almost a decade old, and I can safely say that I'm one of the people who is eternally thankful that vitamin C serums hit the mainstream!!!
I have a DIY serum that I put on in the mornings and it makes ALL the difference in my skin, short-term AND long-term. |

Do you have any links on the DIY serum you use? I'm guessing since you've been through a majority of them you must have a solid set up. |

Links? I make it a little different each time. It's the basic C & E mix with ferulic acid when I happen to have some in stock. Nothing fancy. I always add extra E in the fall and winter to help keep me moisturized longer. |

Hi,
I'd like to think Vit C has prevented damage and pigmentation. But how could one prove that?
Anyway, there is biologist turned skincare "guru" albeit self proclaimed. She has come up with this theory that Vit is actually bad for you.
https://www.oumere.com/blog/2017/11/30/the-3-reasons-why-vitamin-c-serums-are-bad-for-your-skin
In summary, she claims Vit C causes pro-oxidation, reacts to Iron and metals in other products and because the skin gets used to it, it constantly needs to be up-dosed for it to be effective.
Anyway, I never liked acidic formulations (and 90% of them on the market are acidic) until I found Martiderm from Spain that come in vials and they are NOT acidic. I now use one vial a week over 2 applications. That's all. |

I have notice I reaching for the Vit C less frequently. Now probably only once a week.
May be it's a case of it not really giving me the results I once thought it gave? |
