I heard licorice root is a good skin lightener. So can I open some licorice root capsules & add the contents to my nightly Vitamin C serum? Would that work to lighten my skin? Or would I need to get a certain formulation or concentration of the licorice root?
According to the bottle, it's pure. The only other ingredient was the capsules themselves. |

Maybe?
I actually read and know that ingesting licorice root in a too large quantity can raise your blood pressure!
What do you use licorice root for?
I have a drink mix here sweetened with licorice root and it even says on the bottle if you consume more than 4 litres of this product it can affect blood pressure.
But back to your question I have a face mask made with licorice root and kojic acid and it does work for me anyways,
but I do not know how the capsules would melt into a serum.
maybe for a face mask it could work... |

You are talking about pricking the gelcap with a pin and using the contents like with Vitamin E (liquid) or are they powdered? |

I'd just use it for the lightening. But the bottle says it's many times sweeter than sugar. So I guess it could be added to drinks and such too.

I'm thinking they're powdered, but I didn't look really close. I haven't bought them yet...just wanted to see what you guys here thought about it first. |

The DIY sites sell Licorice Root Extract to be used at a 2% concentration. I am not sure how that translates to a powder form really? Sorry! |

I found some licorice root extract! Yeah!
Um, so now how do I use it? Can I just add a drop to my Vit C serum? |

Yes just keep it at a concentration of 2% of the total and it's just fine. |

It is about .63 ml/cc to each ounce according to my calculations so 1 small drop per oz. is about as close as we can get without lab equipment. |

Can you add licorice extract (in liquid form) to cosmetics?
Or is it better to use it in powdered form? |

I have used licorice root extract as a skin lightener along with other actives, it's ok, nothing special, pls don't expect any miracles!
btw,IMO, the best LR extract is sold by skinactives.com. |

daler,
What concentration did you use, and what lotion/facial moisturizer did you you add it to?
Also, what other lighteners have you used? |

I added a teaspoon of powdered LR extract from skinactives to 4 oz. I have used arbutin, kojic acid dipalmitate as well... skinactives sells all... |

Perhaps, you can try doing more exfoliation? |
