There are so many magazines and newspapers telling us to buy the next great thing. We know deep down these products aren't going to get rid of our cellulite in 6 weeks, erase our wrinkles by 40% in 12 days, melt fat away from our hips with immediate effect.
But when the Beauty Editor tells you 'this is the best beauty product I have seen in a long time',' this colour will suit everyone' and 'everyone in the office was fighting over this pot of gold because it works' ....etc, you sort of want to believe it. So you go and buy it and of course 9 times out of 10, it's a waste of hard earnt money.
I've been pretty despondent about B.Ed's comments for a few years and I've especially found EDS a blessing in terms of checking things out before buying. Also my education in skincare is now probably at at higher level than most of these beauty 'experts'.
But something a friend told me recently made me realise just how bent these editors are when 'selling' us new goodies.
The aforementioned friend makes jewelry. Gold with semi-precious stone, expensive, unique pieces of jewelry. And she was recently commissioned by a very well known, high-end skincare company to make pieces for each beauty Ed to send along with their new product. Hmmm...... if the product was good, any self-respecting B.Ed would love it and just want more of it free right?
This is blatant bribery. And no doubt in a few weeks time, I'll be reading about this product and how great it is and how it really does work and how it will change your life forever. Blah blah blah.
They must think we're stupid. |

Yes! 8 Hour Cream! What is that all about?! It's rubbish!
If you put in it on your face, it's near impossible to remove it. I always read (in my glossy mags that I'm also addicted to for the gossip), that it's THE thing to apply when you're flying. Can you imagine leaving the plane with a shiny face full of this gross gunky stuff that would trap flies?? Because you sure as hell wouldn't be able to remove it beforehand without an army of cleansers, toners, muslin cloth and hot water.
And don't even get me started on Great Lash.
I would love to know of a skincare company that sends out its products to be promoted without any inducements.
I personally love the Nude Skincare cleansing range and Neo Strata moisturisers. These products I never see on Top 10 must-haves.
I bet alot of the stuff us EDS'ers use won't ever be seen on the Best Buys not matter how many of us get good results because the Beauty Eds are tied down to their advertising sponsors and to those bearing gifts of gold.
I'd love to create a revolt where the Editors realise we've all woken up to the fact that all they're doing is printing 'stealth advertising'. |
