I live in the deep south and humidity is a part of life here. During winter months I do not have to spend a great deal of time taming my long wavy hair but during Summer with the heat it is a real chore. We also travel alot to diff. beach vacation places and I am constantly fighting to keep my hair looking nice. So, after watching several videos and surfing the net I decided to try the Liquid Keratin hair treatment. My decision was based off of a review that is on the ULTA home page concerning this product. The review was very lengthy and detailed and quiet informing. I purchased the product from ULTA for $49.00. I did not purchase the kit which has other products in it. Have any of you tried this product? I will not know the results for another 48 hrs. and then I will post any negatives or positives. |

Very interested to hear how you get on with this. I'd love to banish my frizz too. |

I cant wait to hear your results Starlight. I'm in southern FL and deal with humidity for several months too.
Is 1 bottle good for several treatments? Or is it 1 treatment? |

I'd also like to know. My hairdresser recommended it...they do it at the salon but it is expensive $400 Canadian. Hope it works well for you. |

O.K. this is very difficult for me not to wash my hair since I wash it everyday. As expected the treatment and flat ironing has left my hair straight as a board and kind of limp and greasy looking. I do not know if I can last 48hrs. without washing my hair!
As far as the price: yes, I chose to do this at home because I could not see paying a salon $200 for keratin treatment or $400 for Japanese straightning. I just hope it works! I will leave a very detailed report once I wash and style my hair. |

O.K. I washed my hair this morning which was way before 48hrs. were over. We were headed to the beach for couple of days and I could not stand traveling with a greasy head of hair.
Below is a detailed step by step of how I did the Liquid Keratin Treatment and the results.
1. I washed my hair like 3 times with a regular shampoo. My hair was super clean. I did not use any other product.
2. I completely blew dry my hair like 100%.
3. I sprayed the product until the hair was wet but not dripping wet.
4. I combed the product through my hair and waited 30 minutes.
5. I blew dry my hair.
6. I flat ironed the hell out of it where it was straight as a board.
7. I waited approx. 36 hours then washed with a sulfate free shampoo.
I did not follow the directions and on some things I should have but on other things I was right not to.
Results:
Incredible shine like when I was in my 20's. No hair falling or breaking. I am at the beach right now and the humidity is very high and I can not believe that my hair is not big. I do not know how long it will last but this treatment has made my hair so much more manageable. I still had to blow dry it and flat iron it but it is so much quicker to make the style look nice and sleek. I also have all the body so my hair does not look limp or flat or super straight like with the Japanese hair straightening treatment. I think my results would have been even better if I had used a little bit of the keratin shampoo after the 3 washes from my shampoo. Also I should have waited for at least 48 hrs. to wash my hair but I could not since we were going out of town. Overall I absolutely love it! |

That sounds amazing. When you say that you ironed your hair... you do mean straightening irons, don't you? |

Yes, straightening irons/flat irons. I just came back from shopping and the humidity is like 200% but I do not have any frizz to my hair. |

That's' brave Starlight!
I just had keratin treatment myself at the salon. I can totally see doing it myself next time. It's time consuming but so it is if you go to a salon. I spent $200 at the salon.
I am using Keratin Complex Infusion By Coppola Keratin Replenisher after washing my hair and this way hopefully it will last longer. It is also very good and managing small freeze that I get from a wind and very humid weather. |

Tracked down the Liquid Keratin product on ULTA but unfortunately, they don't ship outside the states. So then I tracked it down at an Aussie supplier - shock! Cheaper here than in the USA ... but it's all sold out.
I'll just have to be patient I suppose. |

PosyLee: I have also seen it on ebay! Not sure about shipping outside of USA. I know the kit which also contains shampoo, conditioner etc. is much cheaper on ebay than ULTA. |

While the liquid Keratin sounds pretty good I would love to know if anyone has heard of these or tried these??
and sorry,I hope I'm not hijacking your thread Starlight -I just couldn't find anything else good on this topic and I'm always looking for more non-toxic alternatives
In my HOURS(!) of research today i came across something called Bioionic Kerasmooth treatment which is chemical free and half the processing time of Brazilian Keratin treatment and lasts up to 3 months as opposed to just 30 days for the liquid keratin. It can be done at salons but you can also order it on sites like Amazon for $37 and do it yourself so longer lasting and cheaper too! There's one version for chemically treated and one for virgin hair,
Here's a quote from the site I read up on it:
Quote: |
We chose to implement the Bio Ionic KeraSmooth™ Anti-Frizz Treatment, specifically because KeraSmooth™ does not contain Formaldehyde, Aldahyde (or any other derivatives of Formaldehyde) as well as Ether.
Inhaling these ingredients when they become heated with a flat iron may be dangerous to your health;
We have chosen to not allow any straightening/conditioning products containing Formaldehyde, Aldahyde (or any other derivatives of Formahldehyde)to protect clients and stylists from any potential health hazards.
The ingredients in KeraSmooth™ consist of Keratin, White henna, and 3% of perm solution as well as contains NanoIonic™.
Keratin-Henna formulas strengthen hair, add shine, and improve elasticity. NanoIonic™ Complex hydrates and conditions hair, leaving hair healthy, hydrated and more manageable.
PROCEDURE:
The hair is cleansed with a clarifying shampoo to start, then the appropriate solution (based on your hair type) is applied.
The treatment will stay on your hair anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, then the solution is thoroughly rinsed out of the hair.
After that, we use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, then your hair is blown dry and flat ironed.
You cannot wash your hair for 3 days after the procedure, nor can you put into a pony tail, etc. Your hair must stay dry and straight for those 3 days after the treatment.
Each treatment lasts for up to 12 weeks. *(duration of results depends on how often you wash your hair, and use of the appropriate shampoo and conditioner).
The hair is NOT permanently straightened with this product , and there will not be a line of demarkation as the hair grows out. Your curl will come back within 12 weeks. |
also found this really cool natural product called Simply Straight Progressive Straightener made by Belegenza which is simply used as a quick styling aid. Here's a blurb about it :
Quote: |
Simply Straight Progressive Straightener is a unique food-grade fusion that straightens curl and frizz over time the more you use it. Excellent for controlling multi-textured curl patterns. This is a natural alternative to harsh chemical relaxers and straighteners.
A gentle straightening process which smoothes the curl structure and takes up to 30 applications to get full results. It is very gentle and effective. Remember that your new growth keeps coming, so once desired straightening is achieved on mid-shaft continue to apply to new growth and/or problem areas.
Safe for all hair types and is compatible with relaxers, keratin treatments and is safe for children. On excessively curly long hair, use as a dressing when braiding and after several uses, see softness and control without having used chemicals.
Lye-free/ sodium and calcium hydroxide-free/ formaldehyde-free
Use as a styling aid for gentle softening of the curl. Target stubborn curl/frizz/or new growth. Controls humidity and leaves hair with a healthy bounce. |
and check out the scrumptious ingredient list

Pollyanna: It is fine to state other products that are similar to Liquid Keratin treatments on this thread. But, once you try another product and you want to give a review on it then it is best to start a separate thread.
I know there are countless products out there but I tried the Liquid Keratin so I wanted to let the members know about my experience.
As I stated before I experienced shine, bounce and very healthy looking hair without any breakage or hair loss with this treatment.
My results are based on experience and everyone has diff. hair so results will vary. I hope you find a product that you will be pleased with. |

Thanks for the review! Please do update after a month and two if you can.
I had mine done at the salon about two months ago, and was quite disappointed but thought that was it. But when I popped into the salon to get some shampoo, they were disappointed and said they wanted to redo it which they did. It had only 'taken' on about half my hair, so they used extra product the second time. I was delighted with it.
Now, my hair is not as soft as it was then but definitely still frizz free.
It was a real pain not being able to wash or tie it for 3 days, but it didn't bother me so much the second time around. |

I wanted to give an update since it has been several weeks since I did the treatment. First of all week before last my hair stylist made a comment about my hair. She asked what shampoo I have been using because my hair is so much better and for the first time she did not have to use a flat iron to make my hair look nice. Wow what a shocker! I have been traveling and the most humid place I was at my hair did not behave as well but it was so much better than last year. Last year no matter how much product I used or how long I flat ironed my hair was full of frizz and waves. This year I still had to flat iron and use product but my hair looked silky and with out frizz. For me this treatment has been a life saver during this humid Summer season. |

Does this have a straightening/relaxing effect on curly hair... or is it more like a deep conditioning? |

It is mostly for unruly, frizzy hair. As I stated above it makes my hair shiny, sleek and conditioned. I do have to use a flat iron to get the sleek, straight hair. In my opinion this product does not make hair straight but really makes it so managable. |

I have very curly hair, but it's also fine and rather tempermental (i get split ends like crazy), I don't want to relax the curls at all or I'll just have limp, flat hair. I think I'll look into this. |

My DIL also tried the Garnier sleek and straight and it worked excellant but on a shorter time table, lasting a few weeks. But it is also really cheap.
I will see if I can find this one for her to try from Ulta and compare.
The Ulta ones does sound like it lasts longer. |
