I guess this is sun damage. I am real fair and yet my face is much darker then the rest of me.
I always wear sunblock now and have for the past 5 years but my skin is still the same shade.I am considering laser this fall but wondered if anything else could work well?

hi there,
is your face tan all over evenly or more blotchy/freckly? recommendations will be different for those two scenarios

I have the same problem! I think I'm just going to tan the rest of my body to match my face. Haha

Your face is more exposed to the sun & other elements than the rest of your body and thats why its darker. Continue to use your sunscreen as usual and use foundation to even out skin tone.

Hydronquinone should help lighten it. retin-a could help too by peeling off the layers and letting new skin come through. retin-a was too harsh for me though. Have you considered IPL/ it targets any red veins or brown pigment, so it could be a solution for you

I havent tried the ipl.Retin-a is too strong for me also. It never made my skin look better just worse for a long time. I have hyperpigmentation and a ruddy complexion so I thought IPl could work great. The only thing is I have read posts from others who have claimed fat loss in their face and that scares me.

i heard that too, but when i asked around it seems that most of those were from some other laser type thing or ipl and fraxel. i don't think it can happen with just ipl. but i wouldnt argue if someone said that was their experience. i did ask my derm about that since i was a little afraid too, she said IPL can't cause fat loss because it doesn't go deep enough, and she has never seen that happen.
who knows though, maybe in the wrong hands things could go wrong. I think with anything it is very important to have a good doctor

All I know is I have read many posts from others claiming ipl caused fat loss. I dont know all the circumstances but that scares me.
