Hi all,
This is my first post here.
I am forty-something, I'm not overweight, in fact I've just lost a little weight. I have a healthy diet. I look after my skin with a good regime and I drink loads of water.
Lately however, my skin looks dreadful. I look so tired and drawn, my eye bags are very pronounced and my chin/lower cheek area looks saggy. Is there anything I can do to even temporarily brighten and 'wake-up' my skin ? I'm going on holiday on Saturday and don't want to be mistaken for my kids grandmother instead of their mother !
Thanks. |

How is your diet? Is it full of green veggies and fruits? The other thing I can think of skin care wise for a quick fix is something to exfoliate your skin like an AHA product and then maybe some kind of mask? |

Hello, one thing which helps me get a quick glow is using a facial steamer after cleansing. If you don't have one, a pot with hot water, a little essential oil and making a tent over your head/face works but of course use care. Also doing some kind of facial massage, there is a long thread about Tanaka massage with links to video's and ever since doing it on a regular basis my skin, and facial tone have improved. Used tea bags or cucumber slices are good for eye bags. A month or so ago I was watching a show with former models on it, and all of them said that they change/rotate their routines and face products, because the skin sometimes needs the shock of something different. Like working out, the body responds up to a point to one routine, but then requires change. |

Welcome to the club!!! It's not the aging process that really worries any of us - it's the "tired and saggy" thing. I don't think there's really any quick fix - that's why we're all slogging away with our gadgets and everything else.
However, I would suggest trying a series of microdermabrasion treatments. They can wake up your skin by getting rid of all the dead skin cells and give your skin a fresher look. |

Hi Scarlett.
Welcome. Sounds like you are already doing lots of good things and the others had good ideas. Maybe just relaxing more and getting restful sleep. It sure works for me. Also, sleeping with your head a bit elevated. I find a good hydrating mask helps to freshen the face. And much less or no salt, sugar or alcohol. Let us know if you find something that works. |

I suspect Keliu has a good handle on things that work. I would take her advice. |

Well, I haven't got a good handle on sagging!! I'm still searching for that miracle product along with everyone else. Plus, it doesn't help that I hate doing facial exercises. |

Keliu - I was thinking about you and Riley (and other EDS girls)at the gym today. There are women there who work out regularly - they are a little bigger than they wish to be but still work hard and upset they don't "get any better" -
I was thinking how this is so much like us at EDS: All the stuff we do and we only see the remaining problems (probably magnified in our eyes) without realizing how it would be if we didn't do what we did. My friends at the gym would be far worse if they didn't work out so they don't see the fruits of their labor.
That said - Brutally honest - over 50 it gets harder and goes on from there - the sag, the wrinkles, the "look" we don't like. I was happy with my face up until two years ago when I knew the sag was hitting and there was no quelling it. That's why I started facial exercise. It's not always fun (well never )... but it's cheaper than other options & for me at least it works well. I am sure I'll get on the gadget bandwagon one of these days;;; hmmmm dermawand is looking good, microdermabrasion machine.... tau viso. |

At some point, we have to accept the inevitable I'm afraid. Trouble is, in our society today, it seems like it's a sin to become old and frail. My husband has a tear in the tendon of his shoulder and told the specialist he can't remember injuring it - but the doctor said it's not an injury, it's just old age! My husband was mortified.
I admit though, it doesn't help when you see celebrities who are seemingly defying the ageing process. Somehow I don't think the DermaWand and Tua Viso are going to turn me into Christie Brinkley! |

It all bloody sucks this aging bit, but it's still better than the alternative I spose
Guess we just need to plow on, gadgets etc in hand, and hope for the best. My regret is that I never gave a crap about any of this till the last few years, when all of a sudden I looked old. The freaking post menopausal years are like fighting a loosing battle though, and it seems that every week brings a new issue to both the face + body. For me the 5th year and on following the big "M" was the real turning point.
Celebrities make me sick when they always deny having any *help*... I find it quite funny that not a one of them had "full cheeks" and "lips" in their prime, but they sure as hell are flaunting them now. And that's just the tip of the iceberg... |

You've only just begun Ducky... It's a slippery slope all down hill from 55ish on ... |

I agree, I wish that they'd be more upfront about what they get done. Not that I would be able to afford any of it - but I'd still like to know. Sometimes I wonder if many of them get stem cell therapy (which might be non-FDA approved). There's only so much that Botox and a face-lift can achieve - if you've still got youthful looking skin at 60 - you're doing something else. |

I agree. However, if you find the "true" pictures of most of the older celebrities you will see they do have some sagging and wrinkles and most do not have anywhere near perfect skin. |

Reading this is soooo depressing. I really want to believe that someone here has stumbled upon a few secrets, but instead it's all about treading water against an increasingly powerful tide.
When I was younger I hated being nearsighted. Now I am so grateful that I can take out my contact lenses or remove my glasses and not have to see that creature in the mirror. |

The time machine from foreverspring.com exercises the muscles in the face. I've owned one for at least twenty years, have not faithfully used it but can tell a difference, a lifting effect, when I take the time to use it several days in a row. Lately I've been using for a conductor the dmae jelly from essentialwholesale.com. |

I had a Time Machine years and years ago....I think a lot of people have been happy with it but from my experience the tua viso is more updated and effective...but as several here say in the fifties it is a challenge. I have found Flexeffect thrid edition facial exercises my main BIG GUN for the sag monsters!!! |

Yes Toby I so agree with you - my face is better today at 52 than at 50.... thanks to facial exercise. I used to have NL injections and haven't in a few years because of facial exercise. It has made a significant difference. It is the fountain of youth to me.
Combine that with exercise in the gym - which brings good blood flow throughout both face and body and also a regular balanced diet and a good night's rest.
Jack Lalanne says Exercise is King, Nutrition is Queen and he is living proof.
I do expect it to get harder with regards to sag, etc but I'll keep trying. I really think Facial Exercise is the cornerstone of the big picture if you are going to do it without tremendous amount of expense and surgical intervention. |

After picking up a copy of the National Enquirer with pictures of "plastic surgery shockers", facial exercises, gadgets, diet, and DIY, while slow to show results, will at least keep a person from morphing into an unnatural sub-human look. Has anyone tried the "natural face-lift" using the mineral powder in body-wraps and facial compression garment/ wraps? |

lifting serum products can help.. but i strongly suggest to complement such products with overall general care of your body and skin. e.g. limit long hot showers, using humidifier, and using products that has lactic acid. |
