i know dragoN doesn't bother using the gel either and experiences no side effects? |
She has rhino hide is my guess. No side effects, true. However that is not saying that it is the most effective way to use IPL either. I can't say. I am guessing, generally not.
If you are focused on skin treatment for evening out tone, you might find a Salicylic acid peel to more beneficial and potentially safer in the long run. The research on IPL is a little fluffy regarding long term use...and potentially contra indicative. like most things it seems

Its wonderful to hear from you DragoN! And I am glad to hear you are experiencing good results with the hair removal part.
I hope we can get more definitive answers on the skin bulb too. So far the results seem more iffy. |

Hi everyone,
I found this thread and read through all the posts a couple times over the last 2 days. Thank you for all your willingness to share! I am thinking about this for my daughter as a xmas present and use for my self too. I have a couple questions
1) Does it hurt? I have never had IPL treatments but I heard they can be uncomfortable. No one has mentioned it so I'm assuming it's not too bad if it does.
2)My 22 yr old daughter is beautiful has fair skin and (unfortunately) has very coarse dark hair on her chin and upper lip. She is a stylist so she works on it with a vengeance but it (of course) really really bothers her! Should she attempt the face area (according to the directions)or should I just wait until we can afford professional IPL?
I know I know you can't give me direct advise without knowing and seeing my girl but what would you do if it were YOUR daughter? Again thanks you guys. I am so grateful for all of you. |

Hello,
I am new to this forum and have been reading all of the posts regarding the VISS. I am so eager to get one and am close to ordering one. However, I am a guy and am a little (ok, a lot) self conscious in terms of what people would think. How is the VISS delivered? I would have to have it delivered to work, and someone else would be signing for it. Is it discretely packaged, or can everyone see what it is? Is there any way to have it delivered with confidentiality? Any helpful advice and responses would be greatly appreciated.
Oh yes, I would like the VISS for some minor hair removal (reduction) but also for the skin cartridge so that I could hopefully improve my overall skin tone/texture. Thanks again. |

kmaya,
1.) i wouldn't say i'm in pain while i do the treatment. every time you click, how should i describe it... it kind of feels like someone snapping a tiny rubber band on to your skin? but EVER so slightly, you feel it the moment you click and then it's gone. i think the higher you set the level, the more you feel this sensation. it's very tolerable, not going to make you not want to use it at least as it does show results! some people i know don't feel anything, my friend who got the viss as well actually says she sort of likes the warm tingly feeling :P and like someone said before on this thread, it might itch a bit afterwards so i always try to moisturize after the treatment.
2.) you know i honestly thought i saw somewhere on their facebook page that you could use it on the face, only don't go above the cheeks or something like that. but i just looked at the manual again, and on page 8, under 3.4 Caution, point number 2 says "Do not use on face" so... if the manual says don't, i wouldn't but your call.
laurafranchesci,
i think its totally normal for a guy to use it, if not for unwanted hair, then for skin improvement it comes in a regular brown box, and it says VISS on it (the actual viss package/box is inside that brown one)... most people don't seem to know about viss yet so i don't think the label will give it away. but of course, on the post office receipt taped onto the box, it says something like "hair removal device" but its small, and i don't think even the postman will read it. good luck with your new toy!
skin bulb, i think it slightly evens out your skin tone, but it's nothing too noticeable if you have okay skin to start off with. again, it does seem to bring some spots to a head, or dries out some which is cool. as for hyperpigmentation, i haven't seen any fading yet. but it doesn't seem to make the skin worse in the end, so since i have it, what to do but to keep using it? i think with the skin bulb, it's just a much sloooowwweeer process than with the hair removal one. i'm still hopeful that it will bring on some improvements to the skin in general! (tonight is skin treatment #7 tonight) |

If she were my daughter...I would.
I told my mom to buy a VISS. I would not have raved to my mom about it if I held any strong reservations about its effect.

It does do that. I agree...Pretty cool. However, I have not been using it regularly. I am a lazy putz about that aspect and still a bit concerned about the blast of light that the skin is subjected to. Aging vs anti aging..the research remains in conclusive but there are concerns. As such, I remain...*m* I am not too concerned about wrinkled ankles...however regarding the visage...I am a little bit careful. Moderation.
Anybody know the ingredients in the Gel that comes with the skin bulb? |

sarah.november,
Thank you for your input. I'm really tempted to grab the VISS, but the skin cartridge is really a big factor for me. I am considering other IPL machines that are more powerful, and unfortunately, more expensive just because I want the option on doing hair as well as skin. I am unsure at this point. I have had numerous IPL treatments for skin and a side effect of the skin treatments was decreased hair growth. It sure made shaving much easier and much less irritating. I loved it. Now after two months the hair is back. If the VISS is as effective then I would love it.
I'll let you know what I decide. If I go for the VISS, then I would love to share my experience here. If I go for another machine, then I would still let you know about the results. Thanks again. |

I'm new to this forum and has been always been interested on being able to do my ipl hair removal sessions at the comfort and privacy at home. Been to professional clinics - up to now... and still not happy with my results. good thing I have life-time guarantee for my face otherwise it would have been a different story. Been controlling myself since a year or so ago when they first came out with at home ipl hair removal products but just can't make up my mind until recently when VISS came out of the market. After reading a bunch of positive reviews and a few negative one's, I decided to give it a try and see the results for myself. I ordered it today and excited to see the results... will keep you guys posted with my results promise!!!! Keeping my fingers crossed... |

Hello All,
I just ordered my VISS! I'm excited, even though I will have to wait a while before getting it. I will post details of my treatments when I begin. Since I am a male and will try using it to decrease facial hair (I don't want it all gone, but I want it reduced since it causes me much irritation and problems). It would make such a huge difference in the morning when getting ready for work if I didn't have such a dense mustache. I always have irritation and razor burn and I break out a lot when I shave. I would be in heaven if it really works. I also ordered the skin cartridge. IPL is one of the only treatments that I do at the dermatology office. I know the VISS isn't nearly as powerful as my derm has, but even if it maintains the results I get with my doctor so that i can decrease the number of visits and treatments, that would save me tons of money. I'm sure my sis and girlfriend will want to try the VISS if it works. Sorry girls, you'll have to get your own...Ha, Ha, Ha. Sounds funny, being a guy and buying a VISS, but who cares. I have to be happy so I'm going for it. Thanks all for such great posts. They are motivating and with a money back guarantee, why not try it. I hope to post back very soon. Bye for now. |

Thank you for your input...I think I will get this in Dec. and keep updated on this thread.
I admire you laurafranchesci for jumping in and doing it! Please keep us posted with your results because my husband has similar shaving issues and while he IS open minded, another males opinion would go a long way |

I just got my tracking number and it says that it is already on its way. I will keep my fingers crossed, but really hope to get it this week. I will keep you all updated with my results. What am I going to treat first? Hmmm, I think I will try a test patch for the hair, then I am going to zap the mustache and under chin area first. Those are the two areas that are killing me every morning when I shave. Even if the VISS only gives me reduction, where I will significantly reduce the fullness of hair on my face, that would be HUGE!! My face could finally heal and not be so raw from shaving. After zapping my face for hair, I will wait several days and use the Skin Cartridge. If it helps to even out my skin tone and perhaps help with getting rid of some of the redness associated with acne and irritation, then I will be in heaven again. I know I am going on and on, but when someone has been dealing with skin problems for so long, any possible aide becomes reason for celebration. I'll let you know when I get it and will keep you updated with each treatment. Thanks for reading and for your support. |

"but when someone has been dealing with skin problems for so long, any possible aide becomes reason for celebration"
i know what you mean...the hair removal works really well in reducing and slowing down the re growth, so i hope it works for you in that aspect as for the skin bulb, i don't know. for the past month i really wanted to believe it would do something but i may have been a little too hopeful. but they said they were releasing the new skin bulb in september (i don't know if they meant they were replacing the old one with this new and improved one) but since you bought it very recently you might have gotten that one so it could be different for you:D |

Thanks, sarah.november, for your reply. I know that the skin cartridge may not provide the results that I desire, but I am still a little hopeful. What energy level have you been using for that? I read that you shouldn't exceed 5 for the face. Is that because the cartridge can't handle more, or because it may be too powerful for the skin? I am willing to take a slight loss financially to test the skin cartridge. Even if that isn't as effective as I hope, I will still be grateful if the hair reduction works well. I will keep everyone updated. |

WOW! My VISS already arrived. I ordered it Thursday evening and it arrived Monday! That alone is a huge plus for VISS. I thought it would take two or more weeks. I already pulled it out and did a test on my forehead with the skin cartridge. I also did hair for my mustache and general jaw line. I have to say that it felt very similar to the treatments that I have received at the Dr.'s office (in terms of heat, smell, etc.). I did a test with the skin cartridge on the highest setting (not on my face!) and will see if there is any improvement after several treatments. I know the VISS isn't as powerful as the IPL that I have gotten before, but it isn't that far off. My dermatologist has already burned me on my forehead and chin (to the point of blistering) and the overall IPL treatment was excruciating to say the least. I know that my facial hair had increased the pain dramatically because some of the heat and energy from the IPL machine was absorbed by the hair pigment. I'm starting to ramble, so I will quit. Just want to say that I am pumped up and hoping for some noticeable results. I will keep you all updated with my progress. Still can't believe it came so quickly! |

Hello everybody! So I'm really surprised how fast the shipment was. So far so good with that aspect. I just started my first treatment today and basically I would say the sensation is very close to professional laser clinics that I've been to - zapping feeling, warmt and the smell of burnt hair afterwards. I started with level 4 on my left lower leg, 5 on the right just to compare the results. I also zapped my bikini line and underarm at level 4. Like what I just said I'm really surprised how similar the feeling was compared to the pro but I know it's too early for me to tell right now. But so far I'm happy first, because it got delivered in no time, second, because it was very easy to use - covers a pretty decent area in one shot and the interval in between blast is negligible and I was done with the areas I'm focusing on in no time!
The only thing I'm wondering right now is if I should follow the manufacturer's recommendation to do it every two weeks for 2-3 months or if anybody in this forum has done it differently and has gotten better results.... either ways can't wait to see how it would look like in a week!!! I'll keep everybody posted!!! |

Hello Everyone,
I have had my VISS for just about a week now. I have completed two treatments for skin rejuvenation/acne, and I completed my second hair removal treatment today. I have to say that I really think the skin cartridge is working. I noticed a decrease in acne (fewer new lesions) and some fading of acne scars and redness. As I told my friends/family, I don't want to get too excited yet, but will give it another several weeks to tell if there has been significant improvement. As for the hair, the treatment in the beard/mustache area seems to have caused some ingrown hairs (something I haven't had to deal with for a while). After looking closely at my face today (with a magnified mirror), I noticed the same type of problem that I had with regular IPL treatments. Many hairs were under the skin, almost as if they were plugged up and unable to get out. I used sharp tweezers to pull them out. I hope this doesn't continue too long, but know it's a sign that the hair growth has been affected (that was with just one treatment). We'll see how my face looks after today's second treatment over the course of the week. It is hard to refrain from using the VISS because you want results, but don't want to wait for them. I'll probably do a hair treatment once per week until I see noticeable improvements. After that I will decrease the treatments to once every couple of weeks or even longer if I am able. I am still very excited and look forward to continued positive changes. Will keep you updated later in the week. |

Are you shaving in the same direction as the hair is growing or against it?
I've noticed ingrown hairs whenever i shaved against the hair. But non when shaving in the same direction as it's growing.
Try that. |

After having read this thread and one or two others (I suppose there isn't much out there since it's a relatively new product) I decided to try Viss since it doesn't seem to be a scam.
Anyways, got my unit today and it was defective - it will not power on.
I decided to register and post this and will update with my experiences (does customer service tell me to go pound sand, do they fix it in 6months, etc....) so others can read and decide.
Fingers crossed they have a prompt turn-around as I would really like to try it. |

Most people when first getting it think its defective. But they don't know that they have to remove the applicator head out of the body socket thing. Try that
So -
Plug it in.
Turn on power switch which is at the back
removed applicator head from unit body.
Turn on button
And zap away |

Could you be more specific by what you mean by 'remove applicator head from body'? I see the same note in their directions, but it doesn't make any sense.
On the main unit there is a recess in the body at the top where the applicator sits in. Does this mean to lift it out of the recess and hold it in the air? If so, that's what I'm doing - I'm trying to power on the device while holding the applicator in the air. If not, you got me what it means. |

Here are specific directions on how to power on your unit. First, switch the power on at the very back of the unit (under the plastic that sticks out for the cord). It is a black switch. After you switch that to on you should hear a fan-type sound. Once you hear that, lift the applicator head off the unit and then press the power button on the front of the unit (a silver button). That will turn the unit on completely. At this point you can adjust the power from level 1 to 8. I would be surprised if your unit was defective. I have had my unit for about a week and a half now and really like it. I'm a guy and I am trying to thin out my facial hair and hopefully relieve razor irritation. I'm also trying to improve the appearance of my skin, so I use the skin rejuvenation cartridge twice per week. I've only had about three treatments, but think there is some improvement already (for acne and overall skin). I have had two treatments for hair and have noticed some improvement in that area too. It isn't a huge difference yet, but with only two treatments I can already notice a slight decrease in facial hair density and a decrease in speed of growth. I am confident that I will continue to see improvement. If your unit is in fact defective, they will replace it quickly. I highly recommend moving forward and giving it a try. I am excited to do a skin treatment tomorrow and another hair treatment this Sunday. Good luck and let us know what happens. |

Tried a few more times (As well as different outlets, etc...) and it was a no go.
I contacted them and they had me ship it back. However, they refunded my credit card for the shipping charges right away (After I scanned them a copy of my shipping bill).
So right now I have to give the customer service 2 thumbs up - prompt and hassle free, they definitely stand behind the product.
Hopefully it does work - it definately says something if the company stands behind their product w/ no hesitation. |

sooo good to have found this forum!! Just like some of you, I am very tempted to buy vss! I am from south australia, so I am going to follow this forum very closely before I make the purchase. A bit worried about the many faulty units and slow customer service mentioned here... its a rather costly device, and it seems like a gamble 50-50 chance of getting either a faulty unit or a functional one. uuumm...

The customer service part seems to be resolved sfire, it seems they were inundated and couldn't handle the flaws in so many units and replace them quickly. I hope if there are anymore problems people will report back, but I read the entire thread and it appears better for the moment. |
