I think I need one of those silicone sheet products that help with skin healing and scarring.
Had sugery on my arm 4 months ago and I have a terrible red scar-would like it to look smoother and less red and was reading silicone can help.
Creams, would just be too messy I think.
Also when I had stitches taken out part of my skin did not heal as nicely and it kind of looks like I have a "dent" in my arm-not huge but I'd say a small dent the size of the ereasers on the wooden pencils (so like 1/4" diameter).
I think it is just that my skin is very slow to heal.
Going to try and get an apt with a doctor,kind of wonder if it is just my skin healing slowly or if something happened and that they should have not taken out my stitches so soon?
Obv..no one here can really answer that-but hopefully a silicone product can help part of my arm at least.
No ideas what brands to get or what type of silicone product to buy.
I'm going to try and see a dermatologist,but the wait is around 6 months here.
There is just so much info not too sure where to start looking |

I like ScarGuard. Its a clear liquid that you brush on so its easy to use.
It doesn't sound like your skin is slow to heal. Surgical scars do take up to a year to fully heal and fade. The skill of the dr who closed in incision also makes a big difference in how the scar looks.
I would just make to cover it in sunscreen always. |

Is there anything that is not a liquid that is good to use.
I think a liquid would rub off on one part of my arm I want to put silicone on-like at my inner elbow.
I am putting lotion and sunscreen there now and it always makes a mess on the edge of my shirt it seems. |

I just went to a medical supply store today and they actually had some silicone dressings for scars.
The lady at the store showed me MEPIFORM silicone gel scar dressing.
It is a thin flaxible sticky sheet backed with some kind of flexible mesh that sticks by itself.
The sheet they have was 4x7in or 10x18cm
says it can be cut on the package.
price was $20 which is great!
A paper with the use info was printed for me as the store did not have actual "retail" packaging (this was a store inside a hospital entrance).
instructions say the dressing can be worn 24 hours a day,remove once per day to wash skin.
Change dressing every 3-7 days or when it is no longer sticky.
Is waterproof so can be worn bathing and showering.

The backing of the dressing is a beige shade.
hopefully this will help..I have too many scars to improve..but at least the price is decent for the size of this sheet. |

Hi Ottawa Shopper,
I wanted to know what kind of results you are seeing with the mepiform. How significant are the results? Would you recommend this product for smaller scars?

I have not been using the Mepiform that long-so not too much result yet.
it has been quite hot then very wet and rainy here...so kind of have not used it in a week or so.
Mepiform is supposed to be waterproof,and I put some on my arm because I did not want it to get too wet when I was swimming (just wading in a pool-not real swimming).
and it did not stick that well.
So far I have had less skin itching and that is it. |
