I have just started to use this and am using the Retino A made by J&J. I have the 0.025 cream. I started to use it a week ago and have seen absolutely no reaction on my skin at all.
I have washed with a mild cleanser, left to dry and then used the pea sized amount.
Does the fact that nothing seems to have happened mean it isn't working for me and should I go to the next strength up. Any help would be appreciated.

Irritation can take several weeks to even a couple of months to show so don't jump the gun just yet. You should be easing your way into it by using it ever 2-3 nights for the first couple of weeks then gradually increasing the frequency as tolerated.

Even if you have been using it a while and you don't experience any redness, visible peeling or irritation it doesn't mean it's not working.

Exactly. I would count yourself lucky if you don't have any reactions, sue09 as there aren't many of us who don't get irritation!

Thank you ladies. I think I had been so worried about starting to use it because of all I had read about the irritation. I will still be careful and take it easy and just see how it goes.

maybe 0.025 is not suitble for you, may be your skin can bear 0.025. If it will still not work for you within 1 month, i think you should change to 0.05 or more.

I would like to share my experience if anyone interested.

I started taking 0.025% Tretinoin a little more than a month ago. Scared to death after all these post about bad skin reactions and all kind of irritations, i decided to start very slow. During first month - only once a week.

First week - there was no reaction at all.

Second week - 3 days after application my skin started peeling.

This actually became common reaction since then. Few days after application i have to wash out all the bad skin so i can have great skin for the rest of the week.

By the way, after only a month the texture of my skin improved dramatically.
I wander if i should increase the usage or just leave it as is - once a week.

Oh my god, when I started using Retin A 0.025% i had the worst skin reactions. The worst, I tell you. I looked like I got burned. I could not continue it. Wish I could. So, yes, you are lucky. Give it time and go easy Smile

Thank you ladies and gents Smile.
YB.........I have used it every night now, 9 days and still, as yet, have no reaction. I will keep with it and hope that I do start to see some improvement after a while.
I think I will give it at least 6 weeks before I consider moving up to 0.05% to see if I'm a late developer! Laughing

Shimmie, are you going straight to the 0.05% cream. I am still getting no reaction from my 0.025% and this is day 12. I will be happy to hear how you get on with this.

Hi everyone, this is my first post as I just joined and it's also my birthday. A new year and time to ramp up the skin care. I just started using Retin A 0.1% and did it the last 2 nights. I am now starting to get some dryness/slight irritation under the eyes. I don't want to stop using it as that is sort of the point of starting Retin A to start with. I'm not sure why she started me at 0.1% but I really can't afford to now go and get the 0.5%. My question is should I just back off to using it every 2 days and/or use a moisturizer under my eyes and if so, which one? I read earlier that someone uses bio-oil. Would that be appropriate to use under the eye - I do have bio oil at home. Any advice would be great.
Thanks!

Happy Birthday! You can start out with just 1-2 nights a week with Retin A and slowly build up from there as your skin tolerates it if you want to take it slow. Or you can put a plain moisturizer on top of the retin A. You are wearing a good sunscreen daily, right? Very Happy

Funny you should mention a "good sunscreen". I just found out that my favorite sunscreen contains Oxybenzone so I'm open to any good recommendations. Thanks for the advice on backing off on the Retin A to just 1-2 nights per week to start with.

I think it depends if you are interested in a chemical or physical sunscreen, and they are so individual. Lots of people like the Burnout sunscreen. I am using the kids version of this at the moment. It is a decent inexpensive sunscreen. Sunscreen is the hardest product to find, in my opinion, so good luck on your search!

sue09, I started using retin-a (micro though) end of June. Ive built up to everyday use, but for the first 2-3 weeks, I didnt have any/little reaction. Just in the last week I decided to take 4 days off and let my skin rest because it was getting a little itchy and quite dry, and also very sensitive to normal creams, which weird for me as I have quite tough skin. Back on it from tonight.

So you may well see a reaction a little later, just be prepared and know how to handle the peely/red/itchy/sensitive skin. I deal with it by taking days off and lots of good skin stuff like aloe+argan oil etc, as you can't buffer with micro

nothing happened to my skin when i use 0.025 either and barely anything happened with 0.05. But i still like to use one or the other. I feel that my skin benefits as it seems tighter or something.

Well, I have now completed my second week and still have no reaction. I have been inspecting my skin thoroughly every morning, and as yet, can see no improvement. I am going to continue with this, but have ordered some 0.05% from ADC so will keep an open mind about trying the next strength.

You won't see any improvement for at least 6 months. It takes that long for Retin A to start to produce a noticeable change. Most people require 1 year of nightly use before the best changes happen.
