Hello everyone! this is my fist topic so please excuse my ignorance
I am 44 yo and have been in denial for many years as to how to take care of my skin. I made a commitment to better take csre of my skin but honestly don't know where to start.
My face is looking more and more like a map, w/ mountains, rivers, valleys...
I have huge pores, some acne scars, some seboreic keratosis, you name it...it's there. And i swear things started to grow on my face: bumps, dimples where not supposed to
My current regimen: Clarisonic brush- use almost daily, Decleor ylang oil- i live in texas, hot and humid is the word of the day, Lancome moisturizer.
I just came back from a trip to Colorado- my skin looked much better there, maybe because it was cold
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I want to stay away from laser as much as possible
Thank you very much for all |

Hi luli -
Welcome
First, you have come to the right place.
About your current routine, which Lancome moisturizer are you using? That will tell us what "actives" (if any) are in that cream. I have to say in the year since I have been a member here, I have never heard any raves about Lancome skin care.
I would look at adding a vitamin C serum (there are a lot of posts about ready made products to buy or DIY versions), Retin A, and a good moisturizer. Hopefully you are wearing a sunscreen each day.
I hope that helps you get started on your research. There is a ton of great information on this board. |

I am so glad that you have Clarisonic! Get vitamin C and A. C during the day, A for the night.
Get good sunscreen also. |

Hello! I really didn't start taking care of my skin until my 40's either -- better late than never, I suppose. Anyway, I began with the Obagi Nuderm system which addresses seriously sun-damaged skin with pigmentation issues as well as fine lines/wrinkles/ rough texture. If you do a search on the EDS forum, you might see if these products are for you.
While not an easy way out, the Nuderm system will deliver the results that it says it will. However, please be aware that you will need to devote a minimum of 12-18 weeks to the Nuderm program.
Some other "tried and true" staples of your skincare routine should include: sunscreen (I prefer a physical one), Vitamin C serum, and a retinoid (tretinoin/retin a) at night. All of these products have been proven scientifically to help in anti-aging.
ETA: I also loved the Colorado summer weather: cooler temps and very low humidity. Not only did my skin appreciate the weather, but my hair loved it! |

I agree with everyone's suggestion on using vit. C serum under a moisturizer that suits you in a.m and Retin-A for p.m. I found Retin-A works the best for large pores. |

Like Kims, I also didn't seriously start taking care of my skin till is my 40's. I did exactly the same thing as kims...Obagi Nu Derm, Vit C serum, retin A and physical sunscreen. These products have been the only ones that have really made a positive impact on my skin. When I finished the 18weeks of Nu Derm, I followed it with a course of microdermabrasion. I'm now on the Obagi maintenance and have recently added in some facial oils that I've been reading about on EDS forums which has been great when my skin becomes too dry from the retin A. I also have the clarisonic brush which has been great.
You are right about climate, it does make a big difference to how your skin feels and looks. |

I also have just started and will be 40 in October. Am also using the Clarisonic and a few other things..
*Rhassoul Soap: from ncnproskincare.com
*Skin Biology CP Serum: had two uglies scares but otherwise in three months skin greatly improved
*Tua Viso: have been using for 6 months, planning to upgrade to the Tua Trend. Has REALLy helped me feel better about potential sagging issues.
*Bioderma Photomax spf 50, very high UVA protection. Was using Neutrogena with helioplex before.
I also like Nuface and Pretika Lightsonic LED but use both 1-2X a week. The Nuface is too expensive IMO for what it does. It was the first gadget I bought and still works for when I want to do a relaxing spa night. The Tua Viso is what I rely for serious tone. Bought mine from ncnproskincare.com.
A few days a week I use a cheap pineapple enzyme mask by Freeman.
I am about to do a lactic acid peel & also a 15% TCA peel right after my 40th birthday. Am probably buying from MUAC (Make Up Artists Choice).
Hope these suggestions help you! |

Thanks a lot everyone! Apologize for the late reply- i am a nurse and I work non-stop apparently, we are short all the time; I really do appreciate your input
i am still on information overload- maybe I should start w/ just one product at a time ans see what is does; any suggestions/
What are physical sunscreens? I use sunscreen- Peter Roth was the most expensive one, but it still leaves a residue, blocks my pores, oily, etc
Is Obagi Nuderm a good way to start?
thanks a million, and please excuse the late reply

Hi
I am on the fence too. I got all the same skin issues as you except I am in my mid 30s.
I am on the fence between Obagi nuderm or IPL.
I would also like to stay away from deeper lasers if at all possible.
Hope you find something that works for you!!! |

Hi Luli,
I started with Obagi Nuderm because I had so much sun damage to deal with: hyperpigmentation -- sunspots, freckles, uneven complexion, etc. Nuderm is great for this! I don't have a lot of wrinkling (except under my eyes) but it's also supposed to help with fine lines and skin texture.
If you'll do a search for Obagi, there will be mountains of info for you to go through.
It isn't an easy process, by any means! Do some research before making a decision.
Good Luck! |

I like brierrose's suggestion. Most who are just getting into skincare have a tendency to try all the new things that they read about at the same time. Some with really bad results. If you go slow like the suggestion above, you will see improvements. Try one new thing at a time, so you can be prepared to stop it if you get a negative reaction. If you're trying several new things at a time, it will be harder to figure out the culprit, or if it's a combination of products.
As for the retin A, please make sure to review this forum for what to expect. I use a very mild moisturizer with it, and skip the vitamin c in the morning if I feel the slightest bit of irritation coming on. Good luck and keep us posted. |

you can try the aha products or the A retin products because both of them are very best to anti age like the fine lines. |

Hi
i am also looking for a whole skindcare routine for aging skin. I am also peri menopause and although have always looked slightly older due to wrinkles etc with having anorexia for many years (now recovered) but seem to be aging more. my concerbns are loss of elsasticity all over face but especailly the eye area above and below. I also have alot of crepiness under the eye. Would nu derm and retin a hlpf reduce this and firm this area up
many thanks
