Can I use the AHA cream on top of retin-a at night? Do you use it in the morning, too? I only use Vit C serum and sunscreen in the morning now. |
Hi Natalyn, I don't think you should be using Retin A and AHA's on the same night, most people alternate them. I don't know about Vit C, but DarkMoon, or someone really experienced should be by shortly to help you. |

I just bought a jar also.
I use retin A occasionally AND have just started using an at home glycolic (Im at 35% - i mix it) - once a week.
Would all this be too much for my skin?
I HAD acne for years and now Im just trying to fight sagging.
Thanks for any info! |

Thanks socalgal for the tip.
Also, just wanted to let everyone know that Walgreens.com is having a $10 off $40 or more purchase offer. The code to get this discount is ANNIVERSARY. They're celebrating their anniversary or something.
So stock up! |

Thanks Erg and Dark Moon for you replies.......it's seems like my skin is getting used to it now, I'm not seeing redness anymore. Do you know if it would be ok too use this cream after using a hyaluronic serum?
Thanks again! |

I got my Walgreens Alpha Hydroxy Face Cream and have been using it for about a week or two. I'm hooked! I am a believer. It's true that this is gold in a jar!!
What I noticed about my skin is that it's more dewy and illuminating. I even ran out of my Vit C serum for a few days, and used only the walgreens face cream. My skin still looks great without the Vit C serum.
The added bonus is my eyelids look more perky, too. No more droopy eyelids. I don't apply the cream on my lids, but I think it helps to lift the skin above my brows maybe? I can't explain it, but my face just looks really fresh. I have not got more sleep, so it can't be the sleep. Somehow my face and eyes still look well rested.
Great job walgreens. Now if you'll just put some of these creams on the shelves at the store, it'd be perfect. Otherwise I'm stuck ordering online all the time. |

I've been using this a couple times a week now that I'm HEALED from the infamous purge. I love what it does for my skin: it seems refined and very, very soft.
I can't believe that between the OCM and this little pot o' gold that my skin looks better at 52 than at 42!!!
I wish Walgreens made a body-sized jar! |

Ok... hope this isn't an obvious question but
I need help incorporating this into my regime.
I already use oil serums and creams at night. So it seems I would have to use it in the am.
Would it be ok to use in the morning after using a Vitamin C serum? I would wait time for the C to absorb, just not sure if it is too much. Also, does it make your skin sensitive to sun?
Would you recommend using the AHA cream daily or just a few times a week.
Thanks! |

erg,
I can't say I do anything drastic to my skin and it's non-reactive but I have been using it daily after an LAA serum without issues. I do use both a cream SS and then the Colorescience Orb so I don't have a worry about sun exposure and I am in a very sunny area south Florida.

thanks DM,
I have pretty tough skin too, just wanted to make sure. It's funny... just when you get one routine down you have to switch it up when you want to try something new. It is a never ending * spam alert *! |

So true erg! This wasn't too difficult to toss in the mix thankfully! It's a 8% concentration so I find it's a pretty mild yet effective cream! |

I'm so glad to see so many are using and loving AHA's. I've been loving them for decades, and I'm quite sure it has a lot to do with why my skin is still pretty youthful.
Viva la AHA's! |

Well I can't say I am new to AHA's as I used the original Avon Anew the minute it was released (mid 30's to around 50) but did take a break for the last few years. This is every bit as good for my skin! Loving it!

In 1992 Avon became the first beauty company to bring technology that uses alpha hydroxy acids in cosmetics to the mass market, said Amy Chasen, an analyst with Goldman Sachs who follows the household and personal-care product industries. |

Hi DM, that's interesting. I remember trying the Pond's cream with AHAs (my first) back in the mid 90's. That was also the beginning of my skincare * spam alert *. I remember that after I'd used the cream for about 2 weeks, the cashier in the supermarket said 'Wow, what have you done to your skin!?' And I was hooked . . . . |

Yep,
SoCalGal,
It was used by physicians only prior for dry skin issues, but then leased by Avon, first to use it as an anti-aging product. I know I got a load of "Your skin is fantastic" when using it! I only stopped after moving and losing my Avon rep. (friend) and just didn't think to replace it! Stupid move on my part! I am loving the Walgreens brand, I have grabbed up 5 jars now! LOL |

Just a FYI for those who are stock piling. AHA's get a bit stronger as time goes by... (Please don't ask me for the proof, I posted it ages ago from a Dr. L. B. blog (I believe.)
Anyhoo, in my personal experience it's true, true, true! |

The danger is sun sensitivity that's why I wouldn't personally add more acid (AHA) which was asked about earlier. I wear my sunscreen and avoid sun especially on my face.
From Heather Brannon, MD
Alpha Hydroxy Acids
Treating Wrinkles with Alpha Hydroxy Acids
FDA Guidelines on Alpha Hydroxy Acids
Because of concerns over the side effects of alpha hydroxy acids, the FDA in 1997 announced that alpha hydroxy acids are safe for use by consumers with the following guidelines:
The AHA concentration is 10% or less
The final product has a pH of 3.5 or higher
The final product must have an effective sunscreen in the formulation or warn people to use sunscreen products |

Here are the major AHA's and their sources.
glycolic acid - sugar cane
lactic acid - milk
malic acid - apples and pears
citric acid - oranges and lemons
tartaric acid - grapes |

Wow, that is fascinating! I have stockpiled a few jars of this great stuff and was worried that the formulation would weaken. Glad it is the other way around!
Any thoughts as to whether we should be refrigerating our backup supply? |

SoCalGal,
I can only speak from personal experience (with my extremely non-reactive skin) I would stock pile the Anew when it was on sale, like 6 jars! I never felt a difference between the first and last? I am not really concerned but that's just me. |

Do I have non-reactive skin? Lousy skincare will make me breakout (like Philosophy) and acne topicals dry me out like crazy, but I can't find a peel that even makes me pink. Is that non-reactive or just thick skin? |

I haven't used any anti-acne products I never had breakouts, but I am the same with all the peels I have tried (even left them on way longer than the instructions said) not any reaction at all, no pink, red just nada! |

I'm going to ignore the 'no acne' part LOL! Isn't that weird? I'm going to ask the facialist to do a strong glycolic peel next time. I think she knows by now that I'm not going to be in pain - for sure! |
