Hi all! I have been on Differin (apply every evening) for 3 months and not only has nothing improved, but I am still getting acne- even in places on my face that I never used to have problems with it. I can't afford to go back to my doctor right now, which I realize would be the best thing to do. But I did want to ask you guys what your opinion is. I am hesitant to just quit Differin in case it still has potential to work!

Much thanks!!

Are you also using something anti-bacterial (like BP or topical antibiotic)? Are you using the cream or the gel? The cream does not work well for some people.

I would say if it hasn't worked after 3 months then its likely it wont help. But if you are not also using something antibacterial then definitely add that along with differin and see if that helps.

Differin did nothing for me. Its the gentlest of rx retinoids and is usually a good place to start.

Yes, I am using an antibacterial and being very diligent with my skin care routines. And I am using the Differin Gel. So, it likely isn't the answer for me. Off to find other options!!!

Thanks for your help!

Try epiduo, its what my dermatologist said they use after accutane treatment in case mild acne comes back. So when I finished accutane, lo and behold my acne came back.

This was the only topical cream that worked. Worth a shot.

I was on Differin for a while but had no luck with it. Maybe try it for another 3 months and see how it goes. If it doesn't get any better, ask your derm for something else.

I'm on Retin-A atm, but its no miracle product, still acne ridden especially TTOTM.

Good luck!

Which antibacterial are you using?

What do your breakouts look like? Papules, pustules, comedones?

I'm using a Dermalogica product (can't recall the name right now- but it is an antibacterial) and also a Lactic Acid wash from a skin care center in my city.

My breakouts consists of all 3 types of acne. And the scarring is awful. I don't pick at them- I treat them very gently, but...

I know that much, if not all, of my acne is hormonal.

Mmm.. in theory it'd be good if you could go to a Dr. because you probably need erythro 3% +/- oral ATB as the next step.

But if you can't go, what I would recommend is:

a. Switch to Cetaphil cleanser
b. Buy Benzoyl peroxide and use it BID.
c. Continue using Retin-A
