Hi, I'm new here and would like to contribute a skincare blend for beginners, by a beginner
I'm very interested in natural skincare but I feel somewhat daunted by advanced "cooking", mixing and heating that is. I'm 39 years old with adult acne as well as dry/sensitive skin. I need moisture and oil control at once. This homemade blend works really well for me, my skin looks glowing and youthful, pores minimized. For the night I use Retinol ResQ to control my acne (it works well) but I like to add natural skincare on top and in the day. My skin has improved so much that I barely need makeup anymore, mind you, this lotion is only part of my routine.
1 tsp oats
1/2 tsp of pearl powder, water soluble
1 tsp rapeseed oil (organic, good quality)
1 drop of Neroli oil (5% diluted)
A couple of drops of liquid honey (I use akacia honey)
Tools
A coffe filter or similar (I use a paper cloth)
Makeup brush for blending (blush sized)
Jar
Put the oats in the coffe filter. Add cold water, just enough to moisten the oats. Put the pearl powder in the jar. Strain the oats into the jar (squeeze gently) and blend with the pearl powder using your brush. Add the drop of Neroli, then rapeseed oil drop by drop. Add the honey last. That's it! You now have a milky skincare lotion that you can use as a day lotion or as a step in your evening routine. On my fair (not ultra-fair though) skin the lotion leaves no colour at all, but if you have medium or dark skin there may possibly be a lightening effect (please post if you try it).
About the ingredients
Oats are supposed to improve skin texture and make pores smaller. Honey is an excellent moisturizer. Rapeseed oil is used in a new Swedish skincare line, it increases blood circulation, contains vitamin E and is rich in phytosterols (anti-inflammatory, improve sun-damage, increase collagen production). Honey is anti-bacterial and moisturizing. Pearl is a favourite of mine, it really helps minimize pores, keep acne at bay, heal scars, brighten complexion, gently exfoliate and prime. Neroli pampers/balances skin and has a lovely smell. If you have very sensitive skin, you may want to skip the neroli.
This mix will be enough for four to ten applications depending on how much you use each time. I make small batches for freshness and keep it in the fridge. Don't forget to clean your makeup brush regularly and good luck! |
