Hi ladies,
My friend has a birthmark right above her lip that bothers her and she wants to have it removed. She made an appointment with a dermatologist but since it's quite a big birthmark she is worried that it will leave a scar. I was wondering if it might be better to go to a plastic surgeon?
She doesn't know any dermatologists as she never had any skin problems, and just chose the one she made the appointment with willynilly
What are you guys' experience? Derm or plastic surgeon? |

Hi Penta,
My best friend had a few moles removed (largest baby pea sized in diameter) they really bothered her. She used a plastic surgeon and you couldn't see any marks or scars after she healed! My suggestion would be for your friend to get a recommendation for a good plastic surgeon! |

Penta,
I second DarkMoon's recommendation -- hands down! My daughter had some wart-like growths on her side a few years ago that needed to be removed. I would not have considered having a dermatologist do it. I really wanted a plastic surgeon because I thought she would be more meticulous. |

I would say a reputable dermatological surgeon or a good plastic surgeon, but I would not let the dermatologist do it (with emphasis on recommendations preferably from colleagues or patients).

Hi Penta,
Friend of mine had multiple sunspots removed from his face and neck, largest of which being approximately the size of a pea. Had it done at a dermatologist. Initially in the first two weeks, there were visible scars due to the healing process, but now you cannot see any scarring at all.
Recommendation would be to go to a reliable/recommended dermatologist. Same goes with a plastic surgeon as there are varying degrees of skill out there. |
