Hi!

I planning to try to get pregnant in a couple of months.
I've been using tretinoin 0,025% since a year, and I can really see a Big difference in my skins texture and I never get these painful and ugly acne breakouts nowadays, and the wrinkles seems to be on hold. The only thing is that the tretinoin are making my already thin skin much thinner.

Anyway, this product have made a big difference in my skin and my appearance.

I also know that it's not safe to use when your pregnant. Therefor, I have to stop using it when it time to try..

Are there anything You could recommend me to use instead, while I'm off the tretinoin use?
An effective anti-age regime.

And, are the any other substances in skincare that I should look out for, not to use when I'm pregnant?

You could give Finacea a try. Its pregnancy safe and helps with acne and is somewhat antioxidant.

You will also want to avoid BHA. There are mixed thoughts about if BP is ok or not. Definitely discuss with your OB.

There are too many to list but some essential oils are best avoided during pregnancy. Some encourage menstruation, some can cause miscarriage, some high or low blood pressure. I would google what essentials to avoid during pregnancy and print it out. Smile

I looked up Finacea in the Swedish FASS, and they said that there were no studies for what the active substance azelaic acid would affect on a pregnancy.

Ok, thank you for that warning about BHA, I use it once and avail.

Yes extracts as well, in the old days they would use some specifically to cause a miscarriage if there was an unwanted pregnancy.

First of all Congratulations on your journey towards Motherhood. Although it brings many challenges it is also the most wonderful experience you will ever have - Best of luck in your exciting new pursuit.

Next - your question: During pregnancy and while TTC, I trimmed skincare down to the bare basics and tried to use very safe, organics whenever possible (for haircare as well):

Cetaphil cleanser, Basic organic moisturizer and organic eye cream - that's it. Luckily my skin looked fantastic while pregnant - happens to a lot of women due to the high hormone levels. My skin was clear, and quite glowing with little effort. Hopefully this will be the case for you too. Unfortunately, after birth is an entirely different story: crashing hormone levels, lack of sleep, no time to eat properly! That's when you will need to bring on the big guns in skincare until your system re-adjusts itself!

fairlady,

I agree totally for me fortunately I was never prone to breakouts ever (yes lucky) Smile The one thing I found with my 4 was making eating very well and healthy not only during pregnancy but I breast fed up to 22 months, so what I ate was an absolute priority! Smile

Hi Darkmoon -

So glad to hear from another Mom who did extended breastfeeding. I actually BF my youngest son for almost 24 months too. You would not (or maybe it happened to you too) believe the ribbing I took from family members who felt anything beyond 6-8 months was abnormally CREEPY!. The last 18 of the 24 months was just his before bedtime feeding, but it was such a strong comfort and ritual for my son it was too heartbreaking to tell him "No More". Finally at the 23-24 month mark, I had to travel for work and my husband and I decided that was as good a time as any to break away from the BF.

I so applaud you for doing the extended BF - it is one of the very best (aside from unconditionally loving the little tike) things health wise and for bonding that a Mom can do. Of course, there are Mom's that really try hard to BF and it just doesn't work out and some Mom's run into other difficulties so I certainly am not passing judgements - but Kudos to You

This is rx'd to pregnant women in the US, which is why I suggested it. Your OB of course will know whats best for you.

Thank You Fairlady! And right back at you! Smile I joke that I was born to breed, very big healthy babies and enough milk to feed an army so I was blessed there! Smile Oh I took the flack from family and friends but as you say that bonding is lovely! I just followed my heart and basically my kids weaned themselves gradually, that pre bedtime feeding seems to be the last one they tend to give up! Bless their little hearts!
I have known women that just couldn't BF for one reason or another and agree no judgement about it. We all do what we can or must depending on circumstances. Smile

Thank you! Smile - but I'm not there yet..I have mixed feelings towards motherhood, mainly because my I age I think, many of my friend that started their families in my age span, had some difficulties.. I believe it's even more important for me to live as "clean" as I can. And the stuff I put on my skin I really could adjust in enough time before the "making" begins.
I can feel a bit selfish thought - I'm a bit worried to leave my skincare stuff under at least two years - many thing could happen to my skin under two years..I will be 39 when I can start using my "skincare-guns" again. I sound so silly and selfish, I know, but my skin has always been a dilemma for me. Now I finally can find some positive affects to my skin - after 35 years.
If I breastfeed, I cant use anything either..
The acne I can live with to some extend, but not if my skins "suddenly" go saggy och wrinkled up, spotty etc. Razz
So, as long its organic and non essential oil - I should be fine..I'm at the right place asking then.
Please do tip me of organic, baby safe skincare that Works.

Can I use a C-vitamin serum BTW?
And AHA?

I can't definitely not use my Rose D orient from DeCleor then. I will look for some essential oils that are Good for the pregnancy, and to prevent from getting stretchmarks etc.
I think Weleda has a oil that says it prevents stretchmarks, if I don't remember it wrong.

One great place to check is Essential Wholesale, they sell in bulk but have sample sizes (nice size) for purchase. Everything is unscented which makes the essential oils nothing to worry about! Smile

Except for medication necessary for healing an actual health problem or nutritional food supplements good to mom & baby, I will not take in medication for other concerns.

Research reports could not always be right about a conclusion and be override by another reports sooner or later. It happened. So I just don't want to take the risk and rather be over cautious when the subject matter relates to my babe-to-be-born.

So, I'll will put this special beauty regime on hold during or months before pregancy.

There are many safe skin care options for pregnant woman and growing baby.
Any medications or even natural alternative remedies should always be cleared with your OB!

Yes, I will do that - let anything the slightest unclear, I will not use it.

And I will in time to the "making" start chaning my skincare regime and try to find out whats works for me and that are 100% baby and Sara safe. Smile
