I am from Singapore & the weather here's quite humid (70-90% usually).
I have tried SKII (Japanese brand) and Chanel, SKII was ok but pricey Chanel did not really control my pimples.
I have combination skin am 29 this year, have monthly period pimples. Pimples are fine as long as I don't squeese them. Have frown lines & some fine lines on my eyes. Pores, with BHA products I have managed to keep my pores clean & clear, looks some what smaller too with long term use. I am looking for recommendations for whole skincare change. Something cheaper than SKII which costs USD$140 for just their cleanser, toner & moisturiser.
Please help.... thanks. it could be a recommendation other than derm or Murad. MD formulations' prices are too steep for me. |

Hi VC:
I am from Houston, TX -- which is basically 100% humidity 360 days of the year Okay, maybe not that bad, but I understand your humidity situation and it often doesn't help the skin.
I have been using Proactiv Solution for my acne problems since I was 13 -- I am now 23. I trust their products so much. They have a 30 day money-back guarantee, so if the product doesn't work, then return it (even if you've used all of it) for a full refund. But it's worth a try. It's about $45 for a three-step system of cleanser, toner, and acne medication. All are very light. The only suggestion I would say is to be light on the toner as it tends to dry out my skin.
Try the 3-step and see if you like it. You should notice a difference within 1 week -- I did. Nowadays, I use a separate toner (by Yonka) so I had Proactiv send me 2 cleansers and one acne medication. You can basically personalize your "kit" if you don't want a certain product (and it's the same price). I get mine shipped to me every 2 months, and well, it's a good deal. You're basically paying $45 every two months to control your acne -- not a bad deal if the product works, you know?
So I would definitely try Proactiv Solution. I tried Murad a while ago (just to check it out despite the fact that it's more expensive than Proactiv). Murad completely hurt my skin . . . the solutions were too strong. I went to my aesthetician and she literally thought someone put a lighter to my face and BURNED me. It was really awful -- my skin was flaking off and very dry (and hurt). So I'm not using Murad again. Proactiv is just right, I think -- not too strong, but just strong enough.
Let me know if you have questions as I am a very strong supporter of the product

Hi VC
Am pretty new to this forum and just signed on. I also live in the tropics and have been using dermalogica products recommended by my beautician since Feb this year.
A little bit of background - I used to have pretty good skin until I started on a new cleanser from a famous Japanese brand which did not quite agree with me. Started breaking out in my cheek areas and got quite concerned. Got my condition checked out by my beautifician who recommended Dermologica products. So far, the products have been working beautifully for me. I use the ultra calming cleanser, multiactive toner, the micro exfoliant, active moist, and barrier repair. (I have combination skin, oily at the T zone and normal elsewhere.)
Am really pleased with this product line as my break out has since cleared completely (with some help from facial sessions with my beautifician). I have also gone through a few monthly periods with no breakouts - quite new for me as I, like you, used to get monthly period pimples. I especially like the fact that Dermalogica products are generally fragrance free and gentle on my skin. So, I strongly recommend the produce line. If necc, you should try to consult your beautician before buying an entire product range.
Hope this helps. |

Hello vc,
I am from Singapore but is currently living in Houston. I have used Murad, Dermalogical products, and used to do consultant work with Shiseido, Arden and E. Lauder.
I have just came across a new Anti-aging skin care line called the Timeless Persciption. It has a basic 3 piece essential triad which contains an excellent cleaser that does 3 functions: It deep cleans, mildly exfoliate and pH tones the skin. It is especially good for Acne prone skin as well.
Then comes the MDI firming activator, and the Face firming moisturizer. The set is currently available only in the US and Canada. Taiwan soon. But I can send you more info if you are interested. Meanwhile, I will ask around few of my friends (they are deeply devoted to finding the best skincare out there, so far we have agreed on the TimeLess Rx and the price is resonable).
Good Luck!

I worked as the Educator for Dermologica and Murad, and both offer great acne products, however I now am the educator for Dermaquest Skin Therapy brand products and I am very pleased with the results of their acne products. Try the Azelaic Acid Acne Cream or the Clarifying Pads. If your interested I can send you some samples or just go towww.spa-solution.com to order them online. |
