Hi everyone
When I was in Singapore on holiday a couple of years ago, I bought a hair clip similar to this one:
http://mp.hairboutique.com/Karina-Flamingo-Clip-Two-Prong-Large-Tort/P/126447/C/
I got it from Takashimaya in Ngee Anne City.
One of the prongs broke a few months ago, and I have been searching everywhere for another but have had no luck.
Firstly - does anyone know what these are called? The url above calls it a 'flamingo clip' but searching for the phrase only turns up flat clips, i.e. without the arch.
Secondly - does anyone know where to purchase these from? (I'd don't really like the tortoishell, I'm looking for different colours).
Thanks

I have no idea, Karen, but now I'm curious -- looks like a very different/innovative design! Have you tried going to an Asian supermarket, if there's one in your area? (I got a lot of cool Japanese and Korean skincare while traveling and from friends, and I can sometimes find replacements at my local Uwajimaya.)
Good luck! |

Hi Ginnielizz
I'm in London, and I've trawled every Asian trinket shop I can find, along with checking out big department stores... nada.
It's a great clip - I've never worn my hair up because I'm useless at updos, but with this clip, you gather your hair in a ponytail at the base of your neck, do lots of twists upwards towards the crown of your head, then tuck the last bit back into the twist. You then just slide the clip in and it grips around the twist/tuck (which is why the arch is so important) and voila! In two minutes you have a fabulous looking (and extremely comfortable) updo.
I'll try and post a picture of the clip I have, and the resulting updo on the w/end. |

Wow, it sounds really smart! I admit, when I was in Japan I found devices for holding really specific hairdos that were trendy there, and I've never seen anything comparable here in the US. (Problem is, all the clips and pins and stuff were black for Japanese hair, so they kind of show on me since I'm blonde! )
If I ever come across these, I'll totally pick one up for me and one for you! But you might well be able to ping some of the EDS gals living in Asian countries and see if they could do a custom purchase for you -- perhaps in exchange for something that's easier/cheaper to get in London. Good luck to ya! |

Sally Beauty Supply carries that clip.
If you google "DCNL hair accessories" or "Karina Hair Accessories," or "Karina 2-prong flamingo clip"....
you'll find a few places that carry it. Also check your local drugstore chain.
In the US, you can buy that brand at CVS.

I have a tortoiseshell clip in a similar style to Karina flamingo clip (a more cut-out design). Can't remember where I go it, but it could only be one of three places: large Boots or Superdrug, or John Bell & Croydon in Wigmore Street.
Hope this helps! |

Your clip looks similar to Ficcare clips. I know there are a lot of cheaper versions of the Ficcare, but I don't know if they last or work as well. Ficcare's product is definitely high quality and really holds your hair well .. however, they aren't cheap.

Here is the site in case you're interested. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes.
Another good hair product that is less expensive, but also work well is Flexi 8's:
http://www.flexi8.com/
I've used both products and like them both. The Flexi 8's are definitely a little more decorative but you can get plain ones. I also used the Flexi 8's on my daughter's hair. The small mini clips were great on her fine hair when she was younger. The clip stayed in all day and her hair actually stayed in the clip. |

Thanks! I sort of solved the problem by having my hair cut - it's too short for clips now! But I'll take a look at those links anyway, I love shiny stuff. |

I just found your exact clip at a Sally Beauty Supply in Seattle. However, it's a really small one and I think it won't be enough for my big hair. But I'll let you know how it works out! |
