wanted to update...my skin has made major improvements based on doing this:

ditching moisturizers. ditching oils.
(maybe you can use emu oil or squalane but ditch oils)

buy distilled water
buy pure n acetyl glucosamine powder
buy pure niacinamide powder

distilled water - local store
powders - online sellers (garden of wisdom, bulkactives, skinactives, etc)

2% glucosamine
4% niacinamide
in 4 oz of distilled water
shake up

and use that as a serum twice a day. morning and then evening. don't overdo it. spray only once and twice a day.

give your skin time to heal itself with aid of actives.

don't need oils, etc because i read online about a rebound effect where if you put on articifial oils/lipids onto the skin, then the skin will stop trying to generate its own.

doing this has helped my skin so much.

also, continue eating healthy, exercising, all of that can help. eating kale. intaking lutein helps. topical lutein you can try buy some lutein and put it in the water (skinactives sells lutein concentrate but expensive for a little).

as far as sunscreens go, idk, sunscreens are like...a tough one. try to find one that's natural of course and try to stay away from ones with oil in it if possible.

look at ingredients people.

as far as washing goes, i only like dr bronners for cleansing because it's so gentle but just cleanse once a day or maybe a few times a week. i just cant take cleansing...it can be too harsh and set back progress.

this has GENUINELY helped me and i have been doing this for about 4 or 5 months now? it's the best method so far in getting a dent in dehydrated skin.

God bless.

Might be useful for constitutionally dry skinned types to look at the recommendations for vata types in ayurveda.

Hi Deertear

It's great that you've taken the time to share your progress where others may have not.

I'm suffering from the same condition you are from my own mistakes by using very harsh treatments for acne. I am still paying the price today ever since using them in 2011.

I too have looked at the benefits of using Niacinamide and now i am starting to use CeraVe PM lotion. The PM lotion has Niacinamide as well as 3 different Ceramides and Cholesterol. I am wondering whether you have tried this version of moisturizer and if you have not, do you think based on the ingredients included in it that it might actually work?

I hope your success continues,

Matt

Dehydration can be helped a lot by strengthening and nourishing the deeper layers of skin, while making sure the top layer is protected from further assault.

Particularly if the dehydration has caused severe sensitivity, it can take a while and a lot of patience to get healthy skin back.

Even water can be too much for some people's skin if the barrier has been completely destroyed.

Vaseline can actually be quite helpful for some as a barrier layer - my skin really improved after too much microdermabrasion (I'm a spa therapist so during training our skin was subjected to a lot of harsh treatment!)

I used quite a thick layer of Vaseline every night which stopped it from getting much worse.

I found the thing that really helped me was ultrasound skin treatments. These are really gentle on the skin and the galvanic current travels through into the deeper layers, so it doesn't cause more sensitivity on the surface.

Because the deeper layers become stronger and more nourished, this eventually leads to stronger and healthier skin with regular use.

A at home product like the Fyola Lite would be really good, as treatments in a spa are expensive and a course is definitely needed to see results.
