I just tried estriol cream last night on my face before going to bed. I realize this usage might be considered controversial to some, but I wanted to try it.

One night only and my skin hasn't felt this soft and smooth in a long, long time, LOL.

I would be interested in knowing more how much of the cream you use and where you get it. Are you on bioidentical hormone replacement as well?

I'm 60. I get my face cream at The SkinCenter Medical Spa in Pittsburgh. No I don't take any hormones bio or other. But i'll tell you that cream is amazing. I really love what it has done for my skin. My friends who use it are equally impressed. He (Dr.Brandy)) always recommends it to be used with Retin A. Gives you that glow of youth. Between that and the CP's I seldom wear foundation or blush anymore. So I think that nice clear plump skin, white teeth and eyes, and smooth plump (not inflated) lips are a good sign of youth.

What about this:

http://www.lef.org/Vitamins-Supplements/Item01000/New-Face-Solution.html

It's only 1% though - isn't it best at 3%?

But if you are already taking HRT or bioidentical hormones, don't your hormone levels get messed up if you include a hormone cream?

I have read about women using this before....I am sure it would probably alter your estrogen level. Just saw this and it is cheaper on Amazon...other places 60-70 dollars.

What is the difference to this one? It's also on Amazon I can't link from my phone it puts mobile in the URL. I noticed a 5 out of 5 star rating that's why I am asking.

Here is the link...last week I saw one one line that had a pump dispenser.
http://www.taoofherbs.com/products/159/FountainofYouth/DoctorsEstriolCream.htm?source=google&keyword=estroil
Everyone needs to keep in mind that if you are estrogen dominant this will be absorbed.

Do you know for a fact that it is absorbed when used on the face as opposed to vaginally as it is originally intended? Just wondering really? Smile

Thanks Toby! Smile

I know I am paranoid about too much estrogen and estrogen type ingredients in my bloodstream!

I've always been interested in the bioidenticals as well. I am not in menopause yet, but I suspect I am peri-menopausal.

I feel like I've experienced first hand that karma is a *itch !! When I was a young girl, I used to look at my Mom getting hot and red and think to myself ... Oh gross, she looks like a tomato. Well ... guess who's got the tomato face now !! Sad It doesn't happen that often, but it does happen and it is happening more often. I have to look into hormone friendly supplements and am going to incorporate the coffee berry into my skin routines and hope they help, but I suspect it won't be something I will be able eto stop competely.

The answer is yes without question....this is from the pharmacist. It would be absorbed on the thin skin of the face, very rapidly. Estroil is used vaginally as well as on other areas of the body for hormone replacement....but never on the breast.

That was quick, Wow I just can't win on the hormones! Well at least I have never had any issues with Anemia! Smile

Thanks again Toby, I appreciate you taking the time to get an answer from your compounding pharmacist. Very Happy

yes, my understanding is that it is absorbed, that's how it works Smile

Anyway, I have fewer concerns with estriol than I do with other types of estrogen - but I would rather not go the reasons here because it is a complex topic and as I said, controversial, but that said - I would encourage anyone who is interested in this to look at the studies, read the literature and decide for herself Smile

I get mine from the UK - inhouse pharmacy.

It's not so much that it's controversial in my mind as you said it's a personal decision. What concerns me having the iron levels I do and always have had is more a personal concern about risking blood clots.

Normal Ranges

Hemoglobin Male: 13 - 18 gm/dL
Female: 12 - 16 gm/dL

Hematocrit Male: 45 - 62%
Female: 37 - 48%

I test Hemogloban at 15+ always

I test Hematocrit at 36+ always

This is great when I need clotting as I stop bleeding very rapidly even with a bad cut, however I find it a worry for undesired clotting?

But what is the situation if you're already taking hormone replacement? Can Estriol interfere with that? From what I understand, the OTC face creams seem to be about 1% - is this percentage low enough to not worry about that issue. But does the low percentage also mean that it won't make much impact on the skin either?

Thanks Keliu, I guess it's best to discuss it with your gynecologist! It's surprising all the possible side effects some expressed having.

I jumped in and purchased the Life Extension product because the postage was free to Oz (you don't get that very often) so I got carried away.

Some info from EDS member Antonia on her blog "Middle Ageless" regarding Estriol face cream.

Since I am on bioidentical hormones now and without doubt am benefiting from the estroil....why let my thighs get the little dab of cream....lets move it to the face, where it is needed! Laughing Thanks to Barefootgirl's trial I tried it. Results...after first night nothing...after second night....a little wow!!!I can tell you that is where some of my estroil cream is going in the future! I realize that these hormone creams are suppose to be put on the fatty parts of the body for slow release reasons but a little on the face surely won't hurt!

This really has me totally confused now, note the part about no systemic absorption concerns? From Antonia's blog.

One reason that facial skin "shrivels" as we age is that our normal hormone production markedly declines. To make matters worse, blood microcirculation to our skin is reduced as we grow older, thereby depriving our skin of the small amount of natural hormones our body still makes.* A large number of published scientific studies reveal that estrogen exerts potent anti-aging effects on the skin*. The topical application of natural estrogen can provide dramatic improvements to the skin without systemic absorption concerns.
