Been using Retin A about two weeks and tolerating it well except for my chin. It has been inflamed for the last 9 days and now the itching is horrible. It just won't clear up. It will be better for a day or so, then inflamed again even though I quit applying the cream to my chin.
I'm using Cera Ve night cream on it which burns for a minute, then settles down except for the itch. The only thing that doesn't burn is my castor oil/jojoba, but after applying it, boy, it really sets off the itch!
So...is there anything I can apply to stop the itch AND once this is cleared up, should I avoid using RA there? I've read that you shouldn't apply it around the mouth, but does that include the chin? |

Hi Flavia,
I'm not great with what can stop it itching, but I'm pretty new to retin A too, and I have found my chin area, well the sides of my chin the driest area too. I have cut down to every other day which does seem to be helping, and also started using jojoba oil at night about an hour after the retin A application
Hopefully you can use it around the mouth, as that was one of the area I started using it for! |

Hi, Caris. Yes, it's funny, but it's the sides of my chin as well. I thought the most trouble I would have would be around my eyes, but I'm using .025 on my crow's feet and just above the rim of the eye socket area with no problem. I, too, really want to use it around the chin area. I'm actually using it quite close to my lips without any reddening at all. Hmmmm.... |

Hello Flavia,
May I suggest the good old remedy for skin irritations and itching relief- pure calendula cream/ointment. you can pick up a tube in your local whole foods or trader joe's store... i am pretty sure the vitamin shoppe carries it too. just make sure it is the pure calendula cream, nothing else. it is of rather thick consistency, so I recommend applying it at night. but you can apply and spread a little bit during the day if you really need to... |

I would apply some cortisone cream/ointment for 2-3 days only and avoid using retin-a on those areas. |

I thought I would follow up as the original poster. The night I was itching like crazy, I used the CeraVe cream and voila, not only was the itch relieved (after a few minutes), but most of the redness was gone by morning. I had been using the cream off and on and my red, itchy skin was occurring off and on. I guess that's why. Love this stuff! |
