Somewhere on here (I couldn't find the thread,) I read a success story about using Manuka Oil for toenail fungus so I just wanted to report back, having used it for the last 6 months. Let me first mention, I had the $700 laser treatment over a year ago, and that DOESN'T work. (I would love to hear from anyone that HAS HAD IT and actually got rid of the fungus!!) So, after religiously applying the stinky, manuka oil every night before bed for the last 6 months, I have exactly the same looking toenails that I had when I started...no better, no worse. End of story. |

Mountain Girl ... I was concerned about some fungus on my daughter's toe nail. It looked like it was just beginning, so it may not have been as bad as you experienced ....
I used the Karin Herzog Vita-A-Kombi 3% cream on it. I needed VERY little. It seems to be working really well. It was neat to see her toe nail return to a white colour (assume it is the HP/oxygen in the cream). I've since ordered the KH Oxygen body cream to continue.
Leelee has also mentioned that she used the KH foot cream with success. |

Good to know about Kombi....has anyone else out there had success with this? |

Here is Leelee's post from the KH thread:

Time2Bme.....Hi! I don't know which one would be better but I think that both would do the job very well. The foot cream has 3 essential oils that are probably antiseptic in nature and somewhat helpful towards getting red of the fungus, but I think it's the oxygen that is mainly responsible for killing the fungus. I would use the VAK 3% and just keep a watch on the toe nail. If you think it's not working then order the foot cream. It did work on my toe nail fungus. But, I would give the VAK a chance. It just may do the trick. Oxygen at 3% is quite powerful. Hope this helps you. |

I've been looking for a thread about toenail fungus and this is the only one I found in this forum. A friend of mine has been suffering from this condition for 2 years now and she can't find a good cure for it. She told me that she tried using different products without any success. And just like mountaingirl, she also used Manuka oil but it didn't worked out for her. Has anyone of you in here tried ZeroFungus cream? My mom told me it's effective because she tried it herself... |

Your friend may have to get the oral anti-fungal medicine. Sometimes that's the only thing that will knock out a fungus. Alot of times, when a toenail fungus doesn't respond - the fungus is most likely inside the body as candida. She should see a dr about it.
Another option might be the owndoc.com website. They offer treatments for candida and skin fungus. |

Hi, I would like to respond to the problem of toe nail fungus also known as Onychomycosis. Over the counter medication WILL NOT work, you must first find out what type of fungus you have. Make an appointment with a Podiatrist (foot specialists). He or she will order lab tests to determine the type of fungus, treatment is then prescribed based on lab results. Be prepared though, this is usually prolonged treatment and you must stick with it. Hope this helps.

I agree, fungus is a very nasty organism and can usually only be eradicated by very strong chemicals. You will most likely need a prescription, but you can supplement it with the manuka oil if you'd like - just check with your doctor if there's any potential interactions. |

I don't have toenail fungus but I have had chronic fingernail fungus for years. I cannot tell you how many specialists I've seen. No one has been able to treat it successfully.
Manuka oil was recommended on this forum, and it has worked very well. Cured one fingernail completely, and the other one is under control.
Someone also suggested getting the manuka honey, since my problems are almost certainly systemic. I went through a jar of that (very expensive honey, and I'm not a big honey fan) and decided it wasn't doing anything.
With a lot of derm problems, home remedies are adequate or even superior to those dispensed by prescription. I spent many $ trying to get warts removed from my son's hands. Finally, the derm suggested smothering the warts with tape. And that worked!
I'd sure give the manuka a try. It's expensive compared to tea tree oil, but a lot less than a doctor visit. |

Hi Hermosa, read your post re:fingernail fungus, which is just as bad if not more so than toenail fungus, with toenail fungus at least you can wear shoes . Fungus is exacerbated by moisture, so be sure to dry your hands thoroughly after washing and use antiseptic soap. Eat foods that help fight the infection like yogurt, avoid yeast products and take vitamins high in beta carotene. Try red thyme oil and lemon oil. There is a prescription product that you can try called Penlac, you apply it like nail polish and use it everyday. Let me know if this helps. |

I tried Penlac (and may other remedies) - and it did nothing for me.
I had gotten a toenail fungus from a bad pedicure, and I am sure the same lady exposed many of her other customers as well, but I am not sure how many got it.
From the alternative medicine point of view - if your immunity is strong your body will be able to fight it, and if not - then you will catch it (same is true for many other things - viruses, infections, etc.). Having candida or any other digestive issues weakens your immunity and ....
While I was and still am working on my immunity, I got some help from Piabeli (rose liquid) and enormous results from Manuka Oil (that worked in a very short time). Right now I have only a small spot left on my toenail (and it was covering half of the nail before).
I also do not use any nail polish on the feet for now.
For immunity I would recommend Congaplex from Standard Process (or Thymex) for a month.

Hi Sigma,
Thanks for the tip about Penlac, sorry it didn't work for you. I was responding to Hermosa who has fingernail and not toenail fungus. I never heard of Congaplex, good to know. You are so correct about other people getting fungus from having a pedicure. The instruments that they use should be sterilized between each client, so for all of you out there getting pedicures be aware. Thanks again for the tips. |

I've had this for like 6 months on both big toes. I didn't know what to do for it and they are sensitive, it's like a black color under the nail and the nail is disfigured. How often should you apply these oils? Can I just apply them once a day and put a bandaide over a cotton ball soaked in the oils over it to keep a supply of the oils working on it? Another 6 months would be devastating, though 3 weeks sounds promising. Also do I need to file the nail or thin it out before applying the stuff?
I bought for it -
Wild Oregano Oil
Sangre De Grado
Jatatoba
All liquid extracts and the Jatoba is a very powerful antifungal Amazon herb. I plan on taking them internally as well during treatment. |

My cousin had toenail fungus on one of his big toes for almost half a year and it went away after he took bee propolis orally and topically. Apparently bee propolis are antifungal and antibacterial. My dad also drinks it to help his diabetes! |

Hi all, I could have sworn I posted a reply to this but I can't find it now! Anyhoo, try either tea tree oil (well known in Australia) which is stinky too but not unpleasantly so or lemon myrtle oil (also an Aussie goodie). They should help. Possibly neem might help too but that is truly rancid smelling!! |

Hi all! I had nasty toenail fungus for almost ten years. I was embarrassed by it but could not afford Lamisil before it was available generically. I just kind of avoided looking at my toenails. Last summer I finally broke down and ordered Lamisil or whatever the equivalent is from ADC. I took it as prescribed for exactly sixteen weeks. My toenails have looked amazing and clear ever since. Now I realize that Lamisil is dangerous and not recommended for everyone. It's hard on the liver, and should not be taken if you're a drinker. However, I gave up drinking during that time and saved lots of calories! I had tried EVERYTHING before Lamisil. It was truly a last resort for me. But, for me, it was well worth it. Obviously, I would suggest that you do lots of research before using anything like Lamisil. Just wanted to give others hope.
By the way, I am a very, very long time reader and first time poster. I have learned so much from you all. Thanks to everyone for sharing all your wisdom. The information I have learned here has been tremendously useful. Thank you! |
