I had my tear troughs filled about 6 years ago, and all was fine....now all of a sudden it appears through, and is lumpy in one area. anyone know why this has happened now, and is there anything that can be done to smooth it again. I know there are dissolving injections you can have, but I remember once something about a cream that can dissolve filler/fat. appreciate any help from anyone who has been through similar or knows any info on this. |

I'm guessing this was a permanent filler? If so, it depends on what particular product as to the technique used for removal. For example silicone would need to be surgically removed, where as a product like bio alcamid can be aspirated in some cases.
The lumps may be hardening of the scar tissue surrounding the filler or they could be granulomas, only a qualified doctor will be able to tell for certain.
Hope this helps. |

thanks for your reply dee28.
I am seeing a dermatologist soon. It definately wasnt silicone filler. Whats absurd that its occured 6 years after I had it done. Something or some product is inflamming that area. |

Sorry to hear this happened to you. Sometimes it's a delayed response, or an infection can trigger it off. I had similar issues with a permanent cheek filler after a couple of years. Ended up having most of it extracted. Fortunately everything has settled down for the most part.
I wish you luck with fixing your problem. I'm sure there is a solution to all of this.
All the best.

Exactly what filler did you use? Some, such as sculptra is not appropriate for under the eye and is used off label for that purpose. You may also have a granuloma from the filler. If its been 6 yrs thats very unusual to have a complication this late..... |

This may not have any bearing on this after so much time has past for you, but, I was told by a Nurse Esthetician that even Botox if it is injected into the wrong skin layer will cause lumping, as it will become become permanent. That actually happened to her when she was learning to inject fillers, the students practiced on each other. |

I don't see how it can be permanent if the effects of botox, which paralyze the muscle, eventually wear off. Yes, I can see how a synthetic filler would be permanent, which is why I never get them. |

Sorry SoftSkin. You are right I wrote that very unclearly , the Botox was injected into the wrong skin layer and caused a small under skin lump to occur which she said was permanent, not the paralysis. I had gotten Botox for years before I got Perm fillers never a problem with it. |

Well I have the same problem but I was aware of the lump immediately. It was from a fat graph in the tear trough and was right in the injection site. I remember hoping and praying it would "go down" but it never did. Now that the fat has pretty much dissapated, so it is very visible. I've never been back to the Plastic Surgeon to see if anything could be done about it, since he is in another state. I'm just living with the flaw. |
