Hello everyone,
I stumbled across this forum a few weeks ago and have been "lurking" ever since. Now I've finally signed up I'd like to wish everybody a very happy new year!
I have read many posts regarding vitamin c serum but can't find any about vitamin c powder. Is there any difference between the two? I am currently using Philosophy hope and a prayer but I'm not quite sure whether it is doing anything. Would I experience better results with a serum?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. |

Hi and welcome!
I don't think that the skin can absorb ascorbuc acid in powder form and I had heard that applying it to the skin can cause severe irritation. You can get pretty cheap C serums like cellularskin Rx's and they last a while, so it doesn't have to be that pricey |

Thanks for your reply guapagirl. I've been mixing the powder in with my moisturiser. Surely it must be absorbed in this form? Luckily I haven't experienced any irritation - my skin just seems a lot drier.. |

I'd get the C serum from cellular skin rx, at the current exchange rate it's £20 or less and lasts for 3-4 months. I think you are wasting your time with the c powder to be honest |

Guapagirl, wish you were there to grab the phone off me when I was placing my order at QVC. Oh well, I'll know for next time
Btw, do you have any advice about the rest of the Philosophy line? I got a little bit carried away and ordered the whole shebang: great mystery daily facial, great love exfoliator and hope in a jar moisturiser too
I guess I'm just one of those people who are too scared to mix and match.
To be honest, I think I just got a little bit carried away. I tried the Philosophy purity cleanser and was amazed at the difference it made to my skin. So I went ahead and got everything else too. I've never had the guts to use different brands in my routine. Am I really weird?? |

rzecka,
Luckily qvc has a great return policy. If you don't like your products, return them for a full refund. |

Thanks mtview, but I've had the products for more than 30 days now..
Come to think of it, how can I tell if the products are right for my skin? (I know it sounds like a silly question but please don't laugh at me ) Let me explain..
Up until a month ago I'd been using the Clinique 3-step system religiously. It took me 2 whole years (!) to figure out it was EVIL and actually made my skin a whole lot worse. So a month ago my skin was oily, felt dirty by mid-afternoon, was prone to break-outs and generally a nightmare. Since using Philosophy my skin is a lot clearer and seems to be behaving quite well, but it has become a lot drier. I'm not sure whether the products are too drying (perhaps the vit c powder?) or whether my skin was always dry and the Clinique was just too harsh for my skin and caused it to overproduce oil. Does any of that make any sense???
So what I would really like to know is that when I'm looking at other brands/products, should I go for those for dry skins or those for combination skin? |

rzecka,
clinique was evil for me too. I didn't know any better.
I'd go with primarily combo products. You'll want to avoid gel cleansers if your skin feels dry and tight. And invest in a good eye cream if you don't already. |

I've actually got the Philosophy eye believe eye cream (As I said, I have a phobia of switching brands!) As for this eye cream I can safely say that it is absolutely useless and has done nothing for my dark circles.
Lianne, which eye cream do you use if you don't mind me asking? After reading the posts about sircuitskin, I couldn't resist and I ordered a sample of the whiteout yesterday. I'm hoping that this is a "good" eye cream |

Izecka:
Philosophy eye cream is not targeted on dark circles but it's more for moisturization I believe. I found it emollient but not too rich for my combo skin.
I heard some reviews said eye cream with vitamin K will help reduce dark circles but I never had luck with them whatsoever : ( Good Luck! |

Ah, so that's why it's done nothing for my circles! . Again, I'm kicking myself for not discovering this forum sooner!
Come to think of it, I don't think that the White Out contains any vitamin K, but I'll just have to see how it goes.
ps bbiz, don't worry about getting my name wrong! Thanks for all your advice |

The one cream that I can honestly say has done a lot of good for my dark circles was Peter Thomas Roth Power K Eye Rescue (yes, this does have vit K as the name suggests).
I do have Sircuit White Out and I think that it's a very nice moisturising eye cream. I don't know the effect it would have on dark circles as I don't really have any long term ones anymore. I can tell you though that it's not going to "white out late nights" - my Xmas and NYE period is testament to that! It is a good eye cream though. |

Hi rzecka,
I use the Vitamin C powder from Philosphy and I also brought it from QVC, it is a bit drying but I found the results fantastic, the clarity of my skin is now amazing. Have you tried slipping a Decleor oil on beforehand? I hope you post the results for dark circles I would love to try something that works!

Hello, Happy!
I use Philosophy vitamin C powder and I use also Decleor essential oils, but I never used them together, on the day I use vitamin C powder, I dont use the oil. Can you describe to me how exactly you blend two together coz the vitamin C needs activation step? In which step do you add the oil? Thanks! |

Hi Happy, i found it quite reassuring to read that you are having success with the Philosophy powder. I was quite worried that I'd completely wasted my money after reading guapagirl's comments. But I think that I might carry on using the powder for a bit longer before buying a serum (please don't take any offence guapagirl ) and try the Decleor oils instead as you suggested to stop my skin from feeling so dry. Which oil do you use? Could you perhaps recommend one for me? I have combination skin prone to breakouts or dry skin prone to getting oily depending on which way you look at it!
Bbiz, could you explain a little bit more about what you mean when you say that the vitamin C needs activation step please. Does this apply just because it is a powder or is it the same for a serum? Thanks in advance!
ps. I'm still waiting for my sircuitskin order to arrive. So excited |

Hi Rzecka,
For combination skin I would suggest the neroli oil. I have very dry skin and use the Angelique but return to the neroli in the summer. The aromessence oil will increase the hydration of your face cream up to 3 times it also balances your skin. You only need three drops on three fingertips, you rub your fingers together and then quickly pat it over your face, then follow with the Vitamin C powder and Philosphy cream.
Try requesting a sample from your department store. Decleor can be quite mean when handing out samples but sometimes they do give them.
Hope the info helps.

None taken I'm sorry, I thought that you were using stuff from the chemist! I have heard of skincare C powders before...I think Eliz Arden make one where you combine it with a serum before use. The stuff in skincare is L-ascorbic acid wheras the powder from the chemist is just plain old ascorbic acid. No doubt having ordered from sircuit skin (looovely stuff ) you will now be aware of all the chirally left and right stuff...the L- means it is chirally correct and able to be absorbed by the skin...well it won't mess it up at any rate
Sorry for putting the wind up you...happened to me when I bought my molecular mist...and no, I'm still not radioactive |

take a look at your supplement of vitamin c next time.
it usually is l-ascorbic acid.
if not you can buy it in bulk form at whole foods and mix it into water.
where else would they get the vitamin c to make the serum? |

Hi, rzecka -- re the Vitamin C powder, I have to tell you, I too am confused on the whole Vitamin C thing. I'm determined to use it in one form or another, because I'm convinced it's an important step in my skin care regimen, but I'm not sure what's the best way to do it -- not yet, anyway -- I've learned much in this forum as well -- and I too only just discovered it!
I'm currently using a C serum by Cellex-C, but I have used C powders from different skin care lines in the past. I find the powders are most effective and best-absorbed when the powder is dissolved into a serum, rather than a moisturizer or oil. I just find it seems to penetrate the skin better when mixed with a serum formulation. You might want to try this, if you haven't already, and see if it makes any difference.
Cheers, Dee. |

Hi rzecka,
I forgot to give you 2 tips.
1. After using Pruity and drying your face, add a little water to the face before applying the neroli - it aids with the absorption.
2. Check how much of the Vitamin C powder your actually using. I know its a little scoop but sometimes 1/2 a scoop is all you need.

After edenfields post I got thinking (has been known!) and after checking found that my C powder is plain ascorbic acid, so I could guess that it is L-ascorbic acid? Any how, I googled and came across this...
http://www.smartskincare.com/index.html
which I had actually seen before ages ago and had downloaded the DIY beauty and skin rejuve packs.
Reminded by this, I looked in the diy pack and here is their home made recipie for C serum
1.5 g L-ascorbic acid
5ml glycerin
5ml distilled water
Dissolve C powder in the water, mix with the glycerin and you have 12% C serum. Store in small tightly closed bottle in fridge. Make new batch every 2 weeks or sooner if you see a yellowish tint to serum.
There are other things for DMAE cream and ALA creams
I'm not sure I agree with him on everything, he's pretty scathing about agireline for Eg. but a lot of stuff on this site is really informative.
So big apologies for muddying the issue |

Hi, rzecka:
I am sorry to have confused you, I did this to myself too : ) I just realized that the vitamin C powder you all were talking about wasnt the one I was referring. The Vit C thing that I confused myself was the resurfacing thing, that's why it has an activation step with a gel following a vit c crystal! So, it really is totally another product ; )
Like Happy, I would recommend you the Decleor oil as well coz they are very moisturizing and soothing, I use Rose at night and Neroli in the morning.
Wish you luck with the vit C powder after all these new insights!!

He has recently started a new skin care forum on that site. It's only been up a few weeks from the looks of it. Here's the link...

Sorry to dig up such an old thread and even though my head is with all of the info I just wanted to say thanks for all of the replies and advice girls
I haven't managed to get a sample of the Decleor yet but think that just might be a great excuse to treat myself to a Decleor facial |
