I've used 3 products with argireline and all 3 seem to make my skin very, very dry and actually make my fine lines look worse. At first I didn't clue it and thought it must be the base the product was in but then my sister let me try her 'relaxaline' and the same thing happened! My skin looks worse and I have come to the conclusion that it must be the actual argireline that my skin doesn't like.
As soon as I switch back to my old routine (which is very basic: vit C, hyaluronic acid, squalane ) my skin looks great and glowing again.
Has anyone else found this? |

Lily,
Did you use the HA and the Squalene over it as well?
I've only tried one argireline product so far (Alphaderma CE) and I've had no problems - I've got normal to combo skin. My mum has dry skin and she's only using the Alphaderma and the JB skin prep and has no problems either.
It is possible though that your skin just doesn't like it I guess. Which products have you tried? |

I have been using the Relax-A-Line forever and ever and have never had any problems with dryness. However, I have seen others write about this same problem. I do put a sunscreen/moisturizer on top of my Relax-A-Line so maybe that's the trick? I think someone wrote here that the Hyaluronic acid in it will "lock in" moisture so maybe putting moisture under it as well? Hope you get more helpful responses than this. |

The first product I used with Argireline was Avotox. Like Lily my combo skin got very dry and all the fine lines showed up more then ever. Then I started using the AlphaDerma and the Mineral Prep. No more problems and getting great results. Now the new Prep has HA Acid in it and that is an added bonus.

I've been using JB's Radiant Renewal Night Gel over my Prep and ADCE and I have no dryness. The gel is loaded with HA. I'm really looking forward to getting the new improved version of the Prep that has HA in it. Then I may not have to put anything over the ADCE. Winter is the true test. |

hi lily,
quite a few have issues with dryness with argireline & matrixyl like yourself. I can dry out from it, like the Isomers line.
You might need to try others that don't dry you as much or the other suggestions here like squalene, but you are not the only one with this issue. |

maybe you are using too much if it is a serum based one like relaxaline. My skin went really weird first time I used it as I was overdosing on it...I think that the HA if applied too thick has the habit of making a false skin thing...bit like an esthers secret mask I assume you are using a moisturiser over the top? I know I have to and also had to when i used the ADCE. Maybe you just need to drink more water or exfoliate? |

An article on Argireline in Lucire Living magazine has this quote:
"How do you choose what's right for you? According to beauty advisers in the know, the best bet is to go for a formula that has the optimum concentration (around the 10 per cent mark) and look for other, more traditional wrinkle-fighting ingredients like antioxidants (Vitamins A, C, and E) in the mix, and few to no irritants like SD alcohol."
That quote would indicate that it's not just about Argireline, but also about the other ingredients contained in the product.
The Esthers Secret serum has 10% Argireline, along with anti-oxidant ingredients such as grapeseed extract, green tea extract, Vitamin E, D-3,and A, Hyaluronic acid, aloe vera gel, and other good ingredients as well. Esthers Secret also contains no fragrances or dyes and contains Allantoin, with anti-irritant properties from comfrey and aloe. One ingredient in the Esthers Secret serum that I've not seen in others is Glucosaminoglycans which are essential polysaccharides which strengthen and protect your skin cells while infusing them with hydration.
I've used Esthers Secret masque and serum for six months consistently and have no drying effects at all. In fact, in the clinical trials on Argireline, it was shown to exhibit a 42% improvement in dryness of the skin. The serum does produce a "tight and/or firm" feeling when applied and I personally prefer to follow it with a very light moisturizer. Some use no moisturizer at all after the Esthers Secret serum.
From my experience with the ES argireline products, I'd say that the dryness comes more from the ingredients combined with it... or perhaps the ingredients that are not combined with it.
