I didn't watch it myself, but I understand that Ashley Simpson was asked to perform during the half-time show at the Orange Bowl (American college football game) last night. Apparently she was trying to prove to the world that she actually can sing after that lip-syncing fiasco on SNL a few weeks back, but apparently she had difficulty keeping up with the band's tempo. Supposedly she was so bad that the 72,000 packing the stadium booed her unmercifully! Bad Grin (I know -- I'm an evil person for enjoying her misfortune!) Here's the link if you want to read more about it: http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ibsys/20050105/lo_wplg/2523395 This doesn't appear to bode well for the next generation of sisters of superstars waiting in the wings (i.e.: Hillary Duff's sis Hailey or Britney's li'l sis Jamie-Lynn)....

Hi Carekate! I can't seem to access the link you gave. Personally, I dont like Ashlee, Hillary, Lindsay and all those other girls who are coming out now. I just don't like their music. As for talent, cant say much also...

Link didn't work for me either but it works when you cut and paste it rather than clicking on it.

I'm not a big (or small even) fan of Ashlee but I can't help but feel sorry for her given the embarassing situation. I get nervous when I have to speak in front of around 300 people, she was in front of 72,000 (plus TV!). Poor girl! Then again, I know I don't have the talent and would therefore never put myself in a situation where I would have to sing in front of 5 people let alone thousands!

Well at least she didn't have a wardrobe malfunction like Janet did at the Superbowl (where my beloved Patriots won!) Such a great time to be a New Englander in the states these days. The Patriots won the bowl and then hell froze over when my Sox won the World Series. OF course we just got hit with a nasty storm so that's not so great.

As far as these girls go - they are all the exact same cookie-cutter types with some person writing these songs that all sound alike to me. Even my darling 12 year old has no time for any of them. Right now she loves the Mean Girls soundtrack (okay so Lindsay Lohan is in the movie, but I don't mind her as an actress and thought she was cute in Freaky Friday and Parent Trap) and Shrek II soundtrack! Also heard her singing Green Day the other day!

Give me real talent like Shawn Colvin, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Annie Lenox, and even newcomers like Butterfly Boucher - at least they write, produce, play and actually can sing without a backtrack!

I'm afraid I have to respectfully disagree with you regarding Sheryl Crow's musicial abilities. Admittedly I'm biased -- I'm still holding a grudge from that super-annoying "All I Wanna Do (Is Have Some Fun)" song and the undeserved Grammy that went with it, but in my mind, all Sheryl Crow seems able to do is recycle great songs by great artists...the woman should be drawn and quartered for what she did to Guns 'N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine" alone!! Bonnie Raitt, on the other hand, is a goddess. I loved her before the rest of the world ever even heard of "Nick of Time"....

I get a bit confused by your headline...."made ANOTHER bad career choice?" Has she ever made any good ones? Bad Grin

But compared to her sister, I still prefer Ashlee (and that says a lot) Laughing

Ya know, I never liked "All I want to do" either! It grated on my nerves and I'd turn it off every time it came on.

Her album The Globe Sessions is when I started to really like her.

I respect her talent - she plays guitar, piano, violin...etc., and can write a good song (yes, I do enjoy GNR's version of Sweet Child of Mine much better too!). It's funny, my office co-worker hates her b/c she's bikes all the time and feels that Sheryl broke up Lance Armstrong's marriage!

I also LOVE Bonnie Raitt and was listening to her from way before Nick of Time too! (I was just housecleaning with that CD on the other day!). She's wonderful.
