Hi ladies and gents,
hope you're all well and happy.
Just wondering if anyone knows a good dermatologist in Chicago? I just moved here last year, so I have no idea.
My concerns are mainly mild acne, discoloration from a recent pretty bad break out, enlarged pores, blackheads, and mild scarring.
Obviously, I am looking for somebody trustworthy, who will not try and talk me into treatments to get my money, lol. |

I haven't seen her in a dozen years, but when I worked down in the Loop, Katherine Wier was my derm. My problems were similiar to yours - chronic acne and breakouts that were not severe, but really wearing me down after all my teenage years and well into my adulthood. I was 38 when I finally saw her. I found her to be very straightforward, and she really took the time to listen to me, unlike any other derm I had seen. She came up with a treatment plan, trying all sorts of topicals (they were samples - yay!) and then finally prescribing a course of Accutane when nothing else worked. Now I know the legal climate is much different than it was then; almost no derm will prescribe it. But dermatology has changed since then, too, and I'm sure Dr. Weir would be up to speed on it all.
If you check the Yelp reviews, some patients complain about waiting times. I don't remember having that problem, but then again, that was a long time ago.
If you're further north, you might want to check out Gerta Janss, in Wilmette. I haven't had to see her in a while; should go in just for a spot check, being fair-skinned and all that. Her style is different that Dr. Weir's, but she's very competent, too. She listens, and she's been great about prescribing retinoids for me.
Good luck! |

Hi there, zephyr,
thanks a lot for your reply
Sorry, I should have made clear that my main concern is scar treatment, sorry about that, don't know what went wrong
Did you have any scar treatment? |

Oh, you're welcome!
I didn't have any scar treatment per se, though I noticed that using retinoids will also diminish scars and marks. I've been very fortunate in that my years of breakouts would cause red marks that would eventually fade and go away; I never had noticeable scarring.
I do think that both of these doctors can address your scarring. I know for sure that Dr. Janss does all kinds of treatments for skin re-surfacing and refining - and not just facial skin. But it'd be worth checking with Dr. Weir's office as well to see if she handles that.
Let us know how it goes! |
