Hello everyone,
I am new to posting but have used this website for information for ages. I have to thank you all for such great skincare reviews, especially of the Valmont range!
Now I need to call on your vast knowledge of skincare/sunblock. I am leaving for Colorado next week to visit my parents an do some skiing. I know it will be cold and I will be wearing goggles and a neck warmer thingy, so that leaves a bit of skin (tip of nose, bottom of cheeks and chin) intermittenly exposed and no matter what sunblock I have tried I always come back with a wierd leathery tan on the bottom half of my face. I think it looks like a 5 o'clock shadow, not the look I am going for as a 30 y/o woman!
Do you know of anything that will absolutely protect the skin from developing any colour whatsoever?
Thanks in advance, I know you guys are good! |

Coppertone Oil-Free Faces spf 30 is stable so should work. However, it is not very moisturizing. You might have to moisturize then put the Coppertone on top of your moisturizer. Shiseido spf 55 is expensive but an excellent choice. Stable and does not leave any white cast on your skin. The Inessa brand is a good one but can't say I'm familiar with it as is not sold here in the states. Do you have access to Anthelios brand? That one is also stable. If you can obtain a brand that contains Mexoryl or Tinosorb - those are the most powerful, effective sunscreen ingredients available today. If not, try to find something with avobenzone, octocrylene and titanium dioxide. Hope that helps. |

Shiseido Anessa does a SPF50+ and some of the asian brands do SPFs that are even higher. The only thing is that Anessa is pretty watery and I've read that you should use very thick creams (if you're in an environment where the temp drops below 0 deg Celsius) with a smaller water content (water freezes = bad for skin). I think you should go for a higher SPF than you would normally use but at the same time do remember that, regardless, you will still have to reapply it during the day. |

A while ago, someone posted information about Proderma products, some made specifically for sports. Here's their website:

Thanks so much for the ideas. I went to the shiseido counter today in selfridges and the woman serving me was so horrible I couldn't buy from her, but I did test it and it looks like a nice product. I will buy from another store, possibly even in duty free on the way out from Heathrow.
The proderma wind block cream looks interesting, I will have to look out for in in the States.
Thanks again for all the help! I always have my Valmont pack to calm my skin if the weather gets too rough. |
