For those interested in products based on stem cells, here is another based on stem cell derivatives: http://proteoderm.com/index.html

It's very expensive - $499 per kit - and they've been taking preorders for awhile so I don't know whether they're actually sending them out as I don't intend to order.

Information from the site about the product:

Quote:
During pregnancy, a woman’s body increases the production of specific proteins in response to secretions produced by the embryo. These specific proteins effect specific receptor in both fibroblasts and keratinocytes that increase the production of collagen. Proteoderm has patented these secretions and developed compositions including topical formulations comprising secreted products obtained from the culture medium of human stem cell derivatives and particular combinations of components thereof are provided for treatment of various dermatological conditions, such as adverse consequences of aging, wrinkling, altered pigmentation, altered viscoelasticity, and altered thickness, among others.

Evidently, they also plan to have a stronger product that you will only be able to get through a derm.

Quote:
-- Proteoderm, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of Proteonomix, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: PROT) announced today that it has successfully developed a new formulation of Proteoderm. The new formulation will be only available at licensed health professionals' offices. The new product, Proteoderm PS (physician strength) is designed to provide a specific dosage of the active ingredient Matrix NC-138, to the patient depending on the patient's skin type and genomic analysis. Proteoderm PS will be a fresh new entry into the growing category of personalized medicine. Proteoderm PS will provide the optimal and highest strength of the active ingredient for each user.

The Day Cream is mostly Titanium Dioxide and Zinc:

Active Ingredients: Titanium Dioxide 6.25 %, Zinc Oxide 4.01%, Matrix NC-138 (1%) Bioactive proteins

I'm getting sick of all of this. I wish they'd just come up with an annual anti-aging injection!

Proteoderm has a couple of patents assigned to them from the patent holders Michael Cohen (president and CEO of Proteoderm) and Jacob Cohen (his brother). I believe these are the patents:

EMBRYONIC GERM CELL SECRETED PRODUCT DERIVED TOPICAL COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF
http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?WO=2008082524

UMBILICAL CORD STEM CELL SECRETED PRODUCT DERIVED TOPICAL COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF
http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?WO=2008082525

I can't find much in the way of the actual Proteoderm product ingredients, but I did find this lengthy SEC registration information about the parent company behind the products (Proteonomix Inc.). There is some information about the Proteoderm cosmeceutical products in the first 13 pages:

From the last link Lacy provided above:

Quote:
In vivo studies were also conducted using an emulsion containing 3% Matrix NC-138™ on twelve volunteers against a placebo in a half-face double blind study. Volunteers were asked to apply the cream twice daily for six weeks on the crow feet area. Several parameters were analyzed after six weeks: skin profile, skin hydration and a self assessment on the product given by panelists through a questionnaire.

On the basis of in vivo studies, we believe that our cosmeceutical refines skin texture and gives suppleness to the skin thus contributing to a youthful look. However, the research, data and conclusions regarding our cosmeceutical have not been independently verified and the merits of our claims have not been subject to independent evaluation by experts in the cosmeceutical field. The results of our efficacy tests have based on observations of only twelve volunteers and have not yet been replicated. In addition, there are no established standards for test procedures, methodology or documentation by which companies marketing cosmeceuticals must adhere before making claims about their products' efficacy.

Wow, I am shocked to read a company that would come right out and say that. At least their honesty regarding their testing is refreshing.

I don't find it so usual, given the source of the information. It comes from an SEC filing to register the securities of the company. You need to be completely honest and have complete disclosure on those filings. You will never find that sort of honesty on the company's website and it definitely wouldn't appear in any of their marketing for the products! There is other information in the filing (such as financial disclosures) which are also very revealing if you can bother wading though this boring document. Sometimes it's a good idea to search for information in unusual places.
