Ok here it is simply put. I use retin-a and aha's. I want to include a vitamin c serum into my arsenal BUT I'm holding back because of the low PH level of the vit. c serum (generally around 2.5 to 3.5). Too many products that can be irritating is bad. How should I structure my routine?
BTW, I'm seriously considering nixing the retin-a and going to retinol. |

I wouldn't nix the Retin-A if it's working for you. It is THE gold-standard in anti-aging and has many other benefits for skin (like preventing skin cancers from forming). Retin-A (if tolerated) is also better for your skin than vitamin C, so in my opinion more important.
How you'd go about structuring your routine really depends on how you're using Retin-A and the AHA product now.
If you're using Retin-A every night, I'd suggest:
AM day 1: Vitamin C serum
AM day 2: AHA
If you're using Retin-a every other night, I'd suggest:
AM: Vitamin C serum
PM day 1: Retin-A
PM day 2: AHA
Vitamin C doesn't have to be used every day. Ascorbic acid apparently stays active in the skin for a few days (though of course it's activity will diminish over that time).
If your skin isn't overly sensitive, you may be able to get away with using the C serum, waiting 15 minutes, then applying the AHA product.
With a bit of experimentation there should be a way for you to be able to benefit from all three products! |

Thank you Josh! Retin-A overall has worked, however I have found that maybe a source of my skin problems (I experience slight irritation) is due to the fact the retin-a is in gel format. I should consider getting Renova or a Retin-A cream base.
There is no way in hell my skin would tolerate stacking vit-c and aha together at once. I might play around with alternating days with the retin-a and using vit c and aha on alternating days. |
