Since hair is basically a protein, I suppose eating protein makes a difference.

My hair grows like a weed. It drives me insane.

That said, I would exercise caution eating "lots" of tuna... It's quite contaminated with mercury. which your body does not purge. (and I've actually heard those with too high a dose, mercury is detectable in the hair... so perhaps more to your idea)

Mercury is toxic... some some research before you start a heavy diet...

Good luck!

Also if possible it's better to eat "light tuna" because it has tuna species that are lower in mercury Smile

I do think this could be an old wives tale, however eating fish, tuna, salmon etc does contain omega3 and essential fatty acids which is good for skin, hair, nails etc. If your hair is healthy without split ends, dry or extremely damaged it does look better and is tougher to extremities than hair that is significantly damaged, however having said that I don't think eating more fish will make it longer.

However fish does contain goodies that are great for the body but you do need to eat everything in moderation as if your pregnant eating fish can cause some birth defects because certain fish does contain high levels of Mercury as ClaudiaFE has pointed out.
I just think if you look after your hair and keep it healthy your hair will look better. Smile

I think many of the hair supplements are basically mixed amino acids. I've always meant to try some but never got around to it. Maybe someone else knows. Otherwise, I agree about eating enough protein.
