ok so i was putting on makeup this morning and i noticed some fine lines on my forehead. They dont appear to be deep. Lately i havent been as deeply involved with my skincare as before. And havnt even looked as closely at my skin in the mirror as i did today.

Now if possible I want to get rid of these lines cause they look like they are jst the beginning stages of the problem and also possibly prevent any more coming on. Also these are horizontal forehead lines rather than vertical ones.
And I am currently 27 yrs old

My current routine at the moment is:

Day:
Olay Sensitive Skin Cleanser
Photomer Hydracontinue Instant Moisture Cream.
Sunblock.

Night:
Lancome Cleanser
Phytomomer Hydracontinue Instant Moisture Cream

As you can see my current regime is pretty basic and doesnt include any Vit C or actives etc

Please advise what product can I add in that will help me with this problem and just prevent this overall beginning signs of aging cause I think thats what I am getting.

Should I look into Rosehip oil to add into my night routine?

TIA Exclamation Exclamation

Hi there,

I would add a retinoid to your night routine. I've had fine horizontal forehead lines for a couple of years, but have had slow, steady success with reducing them over the last 6 months or so.

A retinoid thickens the dermis and rebuilds collagen, in particular in those little lines, ultimately making them the skin more resistant to buckling at the lines during movement. OTC options are retinol, like Neutrogena Healthy Skin night cream or Philosophy Help Me, or the stronger retinal in Avene's Retrinal and Eluage lines. Prescription options include tretinoin (e.g., Retin A), adapalene (if your skin is super sensitive), and Tazorac if your skin is tough. Retinoids should be used at night and can be irritating because they're so powerful, so start slowly, like twice a week, and build up.

My forehead lines have softened considerably in 4 months of tretinoin, but I don't expect them to go away completely until I've been using tretinoin at least a year.

Also, six months ago, I resolved to stop raising my eyebrows so much... I think the only time I do it now is when I'm talking for emphasis, when I'm using eye drops or eyelid cleansers, and maybe right when I wake up. An important part of this is sheer awareness: little mirrors are handy to make sure your face is relaxed and pleasantly neutral. When people are talking to me and raising their eyebrows, I know it's natural to want to mirror that, but I try to replace that movement with another one: pulling my ears back, which also gives a subtle eyebrow lift. Raising eyebrows is also common when asking a question or expressing skepticism, and can be replaced with tilting the head to one side. And true surprise is expressed not by raising the eyebrows but by widening the eyes. Raising eyebrows during the night and upon waking might also be an issue, and can be addressed by something like Frownies, Frownease, Furlesse, or, if your skin is oily enough, a simple blotting paper.

I saw results in about two weeks from these behavioral changes: the lines stopped being v-shaped grooves, and changed to gentle u-shaped indentations. They briefly get more v-shaped when I raise my eyebrows now, but they usually smooth out again in a few minutes.

I hope that between the retinoids and the not-raising-my-eyebrows-too-much, that I'll never need Botox. Perhaps someone on the forum with more experience with retinoids will know...

Hope this helps!
Kay

Wow, rockhugger now I know I am not that looney for relaxing my face on purpose. I love your determination.

Simran on top of the relaxing consider trying some exfoliation to help lesson the apperance of the lines. I also agree that you should give the Retin A a go. If you find it too strong for your whole face consider using it only on the areas of concern.

Hello! I'm assuming that you're talking about the typical horizontal dynamic wrinkles in your forehead.

Unfortunately, because those wrinkles are due to you raising your eyebrows, they will lessen but not disappear unless you stop raising your eyebrows.

The thing that would make them disappear right away is Botox.

Now for a needle-free solution, Retin-A is definitely the way to go! Also check if the wrinkles disappear during your sleep or if they don't. If they don't you might be making that facial expression during your sleep. If that's the case, you can use skin tape to tape your forehead so at least it won't do the movement at night.

Smile So glad to know there are others out there like me! I got the idea when a friend of mine told me that when she was a teenager, someone warned her that if she kept raising her eyebrows so much, she'd get lines. She broke the habit, and indeed her forehead is smooth, even though she's a few years older than me. I decided that even with a later start, it's worth it for me to break the habit too.

Since then, I've noticed older people with perma-frowns or deeply grooved foreheads, and then I see young people with those fixed expressions but no lines (yet). And I think, "Wow, your face really can get stuck like that!" So my mantra is to have a serene face... and the bonus is, I end up *feeling* more serene too!

I should say that 4 months of tretinoin has left my forehead lines not only softer, but also becoming "hyphenated"--they are no longer solid lines that go all the way across, but there are little gaps where the skin has completely repaired itself. Encouraging!

i beeen also doing the facial excercise to help with possible droopyness i.e. lift the eye a lil.
i bet that may have also contributed to these lines?

Il definatly look into the products you mentioned. And it is definatly hard to not make facial expressions for tht area particularly. lol i noticed even when i was putting on eye cream i did a slight lift lol

thank you for the tips.

Yes, that is quite possible. It also reminds me, many people raise their eyebrows in order to see better (like my mother who doesn't want a bleph).

You're welcome and good luck.

Maybe sephora.com has Philosophy? Or what about Paula's Choice Resist Barrier Repair moisturizer? That's got good antiox (in addition to the retinol) and reasonable shipping.
