Hi,I have joined the forum yesterday and really need advice on what to do with my skin
I am 30 but skin looks awful, lines, huge dark circles, bad nose to chin folds and to top it all just had a horrible breakout of very strange cystic acne I think I would look better if I had more sleep but I am a mum to two little boys and one is very ill with very complex health/behavioral issues so life is very stressful atm. Seeing my face in the mirror doesn't help
I have booked Dermalogica facial for next Saturday and was given 4 samples and would love to get some advice before I go there and am being sold stuff that's not very good.I have tried a sample of Power Rich and somewhat disappointed as it doesnt moisturise enough and is super expensive.
I have just finishes Green Cream 6 and have been using DY Rose hip Cleanser but suspect its too drying.
I would love some advice on the best nourishing /moisturising cream/serum that wont break me out and SS.I am hoping to get a prescription for Retin A from my GP next week
I used to post and read DY skincare w years ago and found it tremendously informative and helpful, moderator was DebiNir and she was great but now all of her post s seem to be deleted and the forum is no longer active
so please can you give me some advice/direction on what to do
huge thanks in advice |

Hi and welcome!
I'm sorry you're having trouble with your skin. My (mild, maybe) cystic acne ended when I started tretinoin and hormonal balancing (evening primrose and borage oil), and more recently, zinc supplements have helped clear up the remaining superficial pimples.
I think you'd be best helped by a good dermatologist--mine helped me tremendously!
The only dermalogica product I know (and like) is the Total eye care SPF 15. It doubles as a concealer and sunscreen for those dark circles, and I found it worked best over a light moisturizer like Olay Regenerist serum fragrance-free or pure primrose oil. I have since switched to Shiseido eye sunscreen SPF 32, which I like better because it blends on better over the EPO, and because it's zinc-based instead of titanium.
Here are my fave products that don't break me out:
La Roche-Posay Toleriane gentle dermo-cleanser: not drying at all, and great for tretinoin-treated skin
Olay Regenerist regenerating serum fragrance-free: water-based (and silicone) moisturizer with niacinamide, which is shown to be good against acne, and it tells skin cells to produce more ceramides (part of skin's natural moisturizing factor). I find this very soothing, but even more soothing is the next one...
La Roche-Posay Cicaplast is a healing serum, also water-based but thicker than the Olay. Cicaplast has zinc and copper to kill bacteria and yeast and to tell developing skin cells to differentiate faster, madecassoside which may have collagen-building properties and I believe has anti-swelling/anti-inflammatory properties, and hyaluronate which helps skin hold onto water and I understand is soothing too.
Olay Complete sensitive lotion SPF 15 (classic gentle formula with zinc oxide and octinoxate): I used this in high school, college, and the beginning of grad school, and now I'm rediscovering how much I like it!
Hope this helps,
Kay |
