Just a quick note about me, I am 34, with a legacy of 10 years acne (errr there might be some squeezing in there to ) and for many years sun baked, smoked, just washed my face with soap, you get the picture. Well you can imagine I woke up one day looked in the mirror and said “who the yell are you”
I have nearly got my skin care regime down and am really happy with it. Just two problems, I am hoping you could help me out with
1. Pizza Face Scars, Now that my chin is clean, soft and clear of those dreaded bumps and clogged pores. I can see the scars *sigh*. Anyone had any success at treating mild acne scars? Pweeeeze say yes
2. My chin is now mostly a normal skin color but the sides of my mouth angling down are gray dull looking. Lol omg they really stand out now.
Any advice/help/suggestions will be welcomed.
Thanks

Hi Tracey,
You might get some lightening with products with glycolic acid in them (e.g. MD Formulations cleaner with AHA, Jan Marini Bio Glycolic etc) or something like Dermalogica Microfoliant (to some extent anyway - it helps fade my "fresh" post-acne marks). Microdermabrasion might be helpful as well.
I would DEFINITELY recommend that you start using a vitamin C serum (I would suggest Skinceuticals C+AHA serum if you are not using or don't want to use separate products with glycolic acid), exfoliate regularly (manual or AHA), and use sunblock.
What is your current regime if you don't mind me asking? What type of exfoliating products do you use? |

Hi Mabsy,
Thanks for helping out
Morning
Neutrogena SA face cleanser
SPF 15 Oil of Olay
Evening
Neutrogena SA face cleanser
Very mild scrub, St Ives
MD Formulations – VitA night recovery, just starting using this
Moisturizer
Spot teat for acne with antibiotic cream, place bandaid over
I also have some green cream, not sure what to do with that now
2 x week mask – chlorella powder, rosewater and 2 drops ylang ylang oil
I don’t think I can buy Skinceuticals in Australia, but I have heard good things about their products.
Thanks

You can buy Skinceuticals in Australia but the mark up on it is high. I get mine online from EDS. In Australia we have a brand called Ultraceuticals (still pretty pricy) - they also have a vitamin C serum and it's pretty good.
The MDF Night Recovery sounds like a good choice - that has 8% AHA (glycolic) so that takes care of exfoliation and also 2% BHA (salicylic) which cleans out the pores. How are you liking it? I haven't tried it myself but I think I have a sample somewhere - I should have a look as I've read good things about this product.
Btw, the St Ives scrub you're using, that wouldn't happen to be the Apricot scrub would it? If it is then *please* be careful with it - it's made from ground shells and can be way too harsh for skin (scratches etc). |

Avelon, Epidermx would work quite nicely for your issue. If you have any questions you can PM or email me. |

Hi Mabsy, saw your comment re the St Ives scrub - I use their Invigorating scrub practically every day! Looked at the ingredients and the 'scrub' part is actually walnut shell powder. The apricot part is in the form of oil. I really like the immediate results using the scrub (I dont use any other exfoliator) but am now worried that I am doing my skin any long term damage using it? Dont want to wake up in 10 years time with a face like sandpaper! Thanks. |

I checked the reviews on the Ultraceuticals and didn’t compare to the rave reviews of Skinceuticals, think I will just save a little extra money and go for the Skinceuticals.
I love the MD formulations Vit A plus night cream even though I have been only using it a short time. The only downside is it has started to even out my skin tone showing up those patches at the side of my mouth that are grayish /sigh
Yes it is the St Ives apricot scrub. I think I will look for a less abrasive one; I don’t like the idea of scratching at my skin.
Cheers,

Avelon - agreed. I think Skinceuticals is definitely better than Ultraceuticals. I'd definitely go with the C+AHA serum, although it is pricey.
Freedom37 - I'm not sure about the Invigorating scrub and if it's any different to the original Apricot scrub. I would definitely not use the Apricot one though, I'd be worried about damaging my skin. That's completely unnecessary in order to get exfoliation. I've got Peter Thomas Roth Botanical Buffing Beads and it's a fantastic scrub but the jojoba beads in it are round and super gentle. Love it! |
