Hello everyone!
I've been busy reading over old topics but I've noticed that there hasn't been any sunscreen discussions lately.
I'm in my early 20s and looking for a solid physical sunscreen for the day and a stronger body one for the beach.
My skin is acting up lately with pimples, huge blackheads popping up on my nose and milia around my eyes so I'm looking for a sunscreen that is fairly light for the face.
Also what to do with protection around the eyes? Do I apply sunscreen on the delicate area? I wear glasses so I can't use sunglasses =( |

I am currently loving Biore's UV Perfect Face Milk SPF50+ PA+++ (It's very similar to Sofina UV Cut Milk which has been dc'd I think). I like it better than my (formerly) favourite Shiseido SPF 50+++ sunblock. I use it all around my eyes as well.
For the body I am liking Sunplay Superblock SPF130 as it's very spreadable and really blocks the UV rays.
However I am in Asia I am unsure if you can find these in US drugstores.
As for your glasses why don't you get lenses that go dark (sorry don't know what it's called) when you are outside? Those seem to work for my brother who also wears glasses. they look cool, too. HTH! |

Have you tried prescription sunglasses? They are like regular glasses, but with UV protection. They can be a bit pricey though. |

Have you tried Clinique City Block sheer - spf25 - I've been using this every day with no usual sunscreen reactions (rash/blocked pores, etc) - contains no chemical sunscreens. |

I've been trying out cliniderm protective lotion spf 45. It's made specifically for sensitive skin and so far I haven't had any reactions to it. |

I use Neutrogena Pure & Free Baby Sunblock SPF 60+ when I am out of the one I use regularly (only available in Hong Kong)
It is non-greasy and not irritating to my sensitive skin! =) |

I'm located in Canada so most of things mentioned so far I can't get
I've tried the clinique city block and found it a little too greasy on my nose area.
The cliniderm sounds really good. Can you describe the consistency oasisjc?
As for the tinted/prescription sunglasses, they're too expensive for me but now I'm wondering whether sunscreen in the eye area might cause more milia to pop up. |

I've only used cliniderm for two days, so hopefully it'll keep working well... I'm very dark-skinned and the cliniderm does leave a little bit of a white cast, but nothing too noticeable (although my friends notice because they aren't used to seeing me at this shade lol, but it's not an ugly/cakey white). If you're lighter, it should work pretty well on you. The consistency is pretty watery and it spreads very easily. However, it comes out in a distinct yellow colour (like the colour of squash) but it leaves no colour on the skin at all. I think it's the company's attempt to get rid of the white cast. It also dries to a matte finish and makes my skin look even better! Really impressive for a line that doesn't focus on cosmetic appearance, but rather on medical skin issues.
I used to use Neutrogena dry sheer (w/e it's called) and it made my skin slightly shiny and I think it broke me out. I stopped for a while but I'm using it again. Actually, I'm testing out the cliniderm on half my face and neutrogena on the other half just to see if I get any reaction. Probably do this for another 2 weeks. But yeah, so far, cliniderm has been very nice to me! I'm very excited because I think I may have found a holy grail!
Since you live in Canada, you can order it online from well.ca. Free shipping and great customer service! |

Neutrogena pure and free is available in all drugstores in the US, I only use it when I am out of the one I get from HK. The one I normally use is called Suisse Reborn White Nano SPF60 only available in Bonjour. But there are tons of them so you can find it easily.
http://www.bonjourhk.com/en/product_detail.aspx?id=964&cat=1000&subcat=1052&sku=SRE135526
I usually get it on sale for +/-$200hkd. Not sure if the price changed though, don't quote me on this.
hope this helps |

Skinceuticals has a really good physical sunscreen as well. I used to use it years ago, now I like La Roche Posey Anthelios SPF 60 . |

Try colorscience sun forgettable powders! EDS has them. I'm in love with it now. You can use it as loose powder and apply over foundation. |

is it true that physical sunscreens are usually greasier than chemical ones? and will leave a "white mask" on your face? |

I use Coppertone Sensitive spf 50 with 14.5% zinc, it's ok. LRP Anthelios just landed at Walgreens so will probably buy that too. Last summer I used Bioderma Photomax. Devita Solar is at the health food store near where I live so might check that out also. Someone on MUA recommended layering zinc sunscreen over Euro brands but I wonder how I can do that if zinc interferes with avobenzone which is in all chemical sunscreens. This was suggested in regard to my question about living at a high altitude. |

I am about to purchase the Devita Solar SPF 30. I now see that one of the ingredients that is included in the new formula is Glyceryl Stearate SE, which is supposed to be pore clogging.
I am prone to breakouts. Does anyone know if this is an ingredient to avoid? Or should I just not worry about it?
(The older formula never gave me any problems).
Thanks in advance for any feedback! |

For me, I use sunscreen rain or shine
Whethere there is sunshine, clowdy or not.
At least SPF45, not lower than this since I am using Obagi products, which I can not do without
Buy a sunscreen that is easily absorbed by your skin, not greasy ones. EDS sells a lot of them and they are very good in customer service...
As for your blackheads, use a foaming gel but not soap. Before going to bed, make sure that you wash your face with warm water and use a foaming gel on your face for acne and blackheads prevention. After that, make sure you also put a moisturizer on your face...

I use the obagi rosaclear spf 30 sunblock with 15% zinc oxide. It doesn't break me out and has a nice matt finish.
You don't really need to go over spf 30, because the difference in sun protection is only minimal like a couple of percent.
Just ensure you reapply your sublock every couple of hours or so and use generous amounts. |

I've used several decent eye sunscreens: dermalogica total eye care spf 15 which is lightly tinted with titanium dioxide 4.5%, Shiseido eyes SPF 32 with zinc oxide 9.3% and octinoxate 4.9% and no tint just a bit whitening, and now Bioderma Cicabio which has a nice amount of ZO but no SPF rating and is a little whitening (really cream-colored) and has some nice anti-puffy ingredients extracted from centella asiatica.
And I wear my sunglasses outside, which are snazzy little jobbies by Solar Shield that fit over my prescription glasses. Nope, not clip-ons or goggles... but sleek wraparounds that hide my glasses underneath (so it's really hard to tell I'm wearing two sets of glasses). I got them for like $20 at Kmart, and I think they're these: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/solar-shield-fits-over-fashion-polarized-plastic-sunglasses-size-small/ID=prod3908827-product?V=G&ext=frgl_Google_Personal_Care |

Just keep in mind if you use it as a booster (as in, adding it into a moisturiser), you are not getting anywhere near SPF 30. |
