I was dreading it, as every year, but this year they aren't due until Monday, APRIL 18 because of an obscure holiday only observed in Washington DC. Yippee! |

No, I'm scrambling to get the 6-month extension application sent, because it's absolutely impossible to get my taxes done while I'm still in France... Just getting my husband's W2 (the first one went astray) took forEVer! |

Nope, I file extensions and pay the penalties every year!
We are self employed, with an LLC and our son works with us so it is complicated and stressful.
Plus my tax guy just quit and I have to start all over with the firm that took over, ugh! |

Not many people know that you have to file your paperwork by the deadline or risk heavy fines, but you don't have to pay then. They will bill you in about 6 to 8 weeks. If you pay the full amount at that time, there is no penalty (unless it's changed). If you still don't have it by then, they will set up a payment plan and you tell them how much you want to pay each month. I always pick a ridiculously low amount that I know I can pay and usually pay off the balance in a few big chunks in two or three months. The interest rate is cheaper than your credit card so don't pay with a credit card. |
