I've mentally recovered enough from 2 horrible brow shapings to try again. Can anyone recommend a brow shaper in the Vancouver area that actually takes into account their client's face and personality when choosing a shape? I always read about the "go-to" people in the US salons but none here.

I wish I could help...I haven't had mine done in so long. They seem to grow so slowly now I can keep up with just the tweezers....If you find a good one let me know, I've been considering a reshape. May take a while to grow them in.

Most of my friends get their eyebrows professionally shaped, and I seldom like what I see. I've seen some HORRIBLE results that have scared me enough that I've never had it done, I just shape them myself with tweezers. The only suggestions I can think of are to bring in a photo of a shape that you like and to go to a higher end salon for the shaping -- you often get what you pay for, and at an expensive salon the beautician might spend more time working with you.

There muuuust be somebody with an eye for brows, what with all the pricey spas and salons. No?

Looks like it's time to hook up the cables and jump on the ol' hampster wheel.

Several years ago I had a facialist that did such an awesome job on my brows. Since she has moved out of state. If done right the arch to the brows can give (my case) a much more lifted look to the eye. Most of the time I have my brows done now in a salon I am not pleased and I could have done it myself with tweezers. As I wear glasses it is hard for me to do my own. Sad A good brow job is a real art. Some people have naturally lovely shaped brows.

One time I had my brows waxed and a good size chunk was taken out of the inside corner. Not much I could do or say. Just had to pencil it in.

Mad If only you were in Australia I'd take you to a fabulous one! Took me ages to find her and I'm holding on tight! Care to take a trip to Aus to get your brows shaped? Cool

The lady I once went to moved salons and I lost her.

I've been to a few others and have never been truly satisfied.

Why not try out EDS?

I love these eyebrow stencils:www.eyebrowz.com
Depending on my the mood or where I'm going I'll use one of the 5 different stencils I bought. There are over 80 to choose from!!! And using the stencil and a white pencil (provided) you can trace your favorite shape and then tweeze the hair outside of the traced line.

I am also searching for a brow shaper. I know how frustrating it is. I had them messed up a few times and they are right there on my face and everyone can see them Mad It is not like bad haircut which you can hide in a ponytail ( if they are long enough to make one).
I am in New York, so if anyone can suggest a good eye brow shaper I'll be glad to try Smile

I remember reading in In Style there was one lady in NY who shapes Katherine Zita Jones eye brows. The price was around $60 Shock But now I am thinking I should have kept the number.

I dunno what vitamins you're taking but mine tend not to grow back in... at least they've never entirely grown back. Sad

Lianne - I didn't see brow shaping on any of EDS' spa service menus. Question

Hi Kei - I don't use the stencils for plucking - I just lightly fill them in with a brow pencil or powder.

Chimera,
There is one girl that shaped my brows before that I really liked. She used to live in Brooklyn and worked at home doing manicures, pedicures and brows. Then someone liked how she shaped brows and now she works at Bergdorf Goodman Cool . The price at Bergdorf Goodman is $70 Shock
In the begining she used to work at home in the evening and charged $5 Laughing
Now she moved to NJ Crying or Very sad and does not work at home at all.
If you are interested I can give you her name.
I am still looking for someone who does same good job as she did but for less money.

Actually my question to all girls would be: How much would you pay for eyebrows?

christine,

Haven't been to EDS yet, I just buy stuff online because I'm too lazy to drive there, and know I'll come home with three times as much!!

The spas I've been to are the absolute at YVR fairmont (nice but $$$$$ and sold me horrible product), spa ethos (again $$$, snobby, mediocre service), profile (was decent all around but management changed and went blah).

I did have the lady at my hairdresser do my brows one a few years back. She was ok, but screamed at me for overplucking...I think she's got an attitude problem.

My friends go to this lady in the hamilton area to get threading down. It's in the same complex as Lois Lanes Bowling (westminster hwy, halfway between HWY 91 and walmart). I don't know the ladies name or anything more. My mom's friend says good things about the place at terra nova, but she goes for nails, not brows.

It sucks that people treat you poorly just because you don't speak chinese. I worked in the mall for a while and anytime my chinese co-worker was working a lot of the asian customers wouldn't talk to me, they would only let her help. I used to love the people who pretended not to know how to speak english until they wanted a discount...they sure learned quick!! Laughing

kpka: 70 dollars?!?! My God!!! That is expensive!!! I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay that much, as I am pretty happy with the way I can shape them myself. However, I wouldn't mind spending $30 - $40 to save myself the trouble -- provided I got a great shape.

lianne, that's what i think also if i go to EDS Very Happy My wallet will be empty right after I step in .

I found a spa called European Touch Day Spa at Garden City and Blundell, i went there before and ask for the price and their products (dermalogica), etc. But still never heard people talk about it ..

Haha I know some Chinese does that too, they will speak English only when they want a discount or refund! I'm Asian, but i'm not Chinese and everywhere i go, people will speak Chinese to me and i will go like ??? ??? So when they know i'm not chinese they will treat me differently... sometimes i wonder, why would they open a business here when they just want chinese customers????? haha

Christine,
The one at garden city and blundell? Never been there before...been to the dog grooming place next door though! Laughing Laughing

I've had people speak chinese to me too, and I'm as white as you can get! I think it would be great if I could learn, but languages aren't my thing.

I was really surprised last time I went to aberdeen...the people working were nice to me, and didn't ignore me. Maybe they though I was going to steal? I don't know.

Poor kei, we've taken over her thread to complain about rude storeowners.

I feel the same way. That's why I have been shaping my brows myself for almost half a year. But I am still hoping to find the perfect brow shaper Very Happy

Haha, no worries lianne. Hey, we should come up with a list of "possible candidates". I only know of Suki's and Flaming June that do brows. Any other suggestions?

My first bad shaping was from a Chinese salon. The lady basically used one of those plastic facial razors and gave me the exact same brows as herself. I looked terrible (and this happened to be just before grad night). You can't pay me enough to ever go to one of those now.

I'm Canadian-born Chinese, but I can fly under radar on both sides. I find Chinese salespeople either snub me or talk my ear off pushing products and automatically "adding" them to my purchases before I've actually agreed to buying them. Many of them react very differently depending on how I'm dressed. Some places are getting better though.

kpka - Definitely not $70US! But then I'm pretty desperate... so let's say $40US..*shudders*... But they'd better be the brows after that. Cool [/i]

kei,

I think the max I'd pay for brow shaping is $25 I don't think I've ever been charged more than $15. And you'd NEVER catch me dead using a razor on my brows...no way! It's too easy for them to mess up!

I'm going to start asking people where they go and find out a few places.

lianne -- a razor?? People do that? First of all, I would imagine that would hurt like hell. Secondly, the regrowth would be immediate and then you'd have brow stubble! I'm probably hyper sensitive because I have naturally thick, dark brows, but I find it weird that people use razors!

Now that I think of it, I have seen eyebrow razors for sale in my local discount store. Shock

sorry kei I addressed the wrong poster before (I thik I completely overlooked your post). How did the razor turn out??? Didn't it grow back like -- the very next day? What the hell what a rip off!!!!! I tried a razor on my brows when I was a teenager after reading in a magazine that Mariah Carey used to do it -- NEVER ever did that again. Ever.
